A brand new thriller that was filmed in Liverpool launches tomorrow
2 hours ago

A new Harlan Coben thriller is landing on Prime Video this Wednesday October 22nd and sharp-eyed fans will be able to spot some well-known Liverpool locations.
Like all dramas created by the best-selling American author, Lazarus has been eagerly awaited and – like lots of hugely popular ones that have streamed before – this was shot mostly around the North West including here in Liverpool.
Filming actually took place back in spring last year, when the series’ stars and production crews were first seen. Over Easter weekend, one of Lazarus’s lead characters – played by actor Sam Claflin – was spotted shooting scenes around Falkner Square in the Georgian Quarter.
Unlike most previous TV adaptations, this one isn’t based on one of Harlan Coben’s novels. It’s actually an original story idea written by him along with BAFTA-winner Danny Brocklehurst, who wrote the screenplays for Netflix’s adaptations of Coban’s novels Fool Me Once and Stay Close.
But it still promises to have all the trademark twists and turns that fans really love and it’s been described as part mystery, part psychological thriller so it already sounds like a potential binge-fest.
The full six-part series is about to drop on Prime Video so if you’re planning to watch, and keep a look out for some familiar places, here’s what you should know …
What is Lazarus about and who’s in it?
According to Prime, Lazarus centres around Joel Lazarus, known as Laz, a well-respected forensic psychologist who goes back home after his father, Dr. Jonathan Lazarus, aka Dr L, dies in suspicious circumstances. Even though he’s initially told the death was by suicide, Laz begins to have disturbing experiences that can’t be explained and visions of people he knows are dead.
He soon finds himself entangled in a series of cold-case murders while he struggles to get to the bottom of the mystery of his father’s death and his sister Sutton’s murder 25 years ago.
Unlike quite a few previous Harlan Coben adaptations, there’s so sign of Richard Armitage in this one! Instead the lead roles go to Sam Claflin (probably best known for the film Me Before You with Emilia Clarke, and Daisy Jones & The Six) as Laz, and Bill Nighy who plays his dad. Alexandra Roach, who appeared in Killing Eve and Utopia, is Laz’s sister Jenna.
Where was it filmed?
As well as the Georgian Quarter, the Lazarus crew were seen in several other locations popular with film productions including Fenwick Street in the city centre, near the Slaughter House pub, Stanley Dock – which has just featured heavily in Netflix’s House of Guinness – and Sefton Park.
If you like a bit of Liverpool spotting, look out for a scene involving forensics officers in and the late-night discovery of a body. That was filmed in Sefton Park.
All six episodes of Lazarus will be available to watch on Prime Video from Wednesday October 22.
