A dazzling Day of the Dead fire theatre show is coming to Wirral for Halloween

Liverpool-based Bring The Fire Project have created a new family-friendly Fuego de los Muertos experience, taking audiences on a flame-filled journey between the lands of the living and dead.

It starts with an opening narration to set the scene and then the rest is storytelling through movement.

Along the way, there’ll be flaming sword fights, comedy chases and a blazing skipping rope sequence, zombies, fire levitation and a pyrotechnic finale.

After the success of the Liverpool Fire Arts Festival and Fire Gala earlier in the year, this event will be held outdoors in the courtyard of Future Yard in Birkenhead on Saturday, November 1.

Becks Hylton, production manager for Bring the Fire Project, says it’s a fun way for families to celebrate Halloween/early Bonfire Night and watch spectacular displays by a cast of talented local fire performers.

Fuego de los Muertos

She says:

“The show is based around an original story which takes its inspiration from the traditional Fuego de los Muertos.

“It opens with Lady Catrina who is the link between the land of the living and the land of the dead.

“Then we meet our hero, who visits an old graveyard to mourn and search for his lost lover. When he’s there, the worlds between the living and the dead start to merge.

“He finds a magical artefact and discovers the secret art of fire levitation but when they’re woken by the light, the undead start to rise and zombies appear.

“He realises at first that he can control them with fire, but once the spell is broken they start coming for him again. We get introduced to the lost lover who’s in the underworld dancing around, and they find each other and have a romantic reunion, but then the zombies return and he tries to protect her.”

It’s only after a fire sword fight and a zombie chase that there’s a happy ending – the two lovers are reunited and there’s a big finale with pyrotechnics!

Fuego de los Muertos

Becks says the production is packed with fire skills lighting up the night. “Every act is a fire act, so we have torches, juggling, staffs, fireflies, swords, and at the beginning there’s the goddess with her flaming costume which is really stunning.

“It’s very family-friendly too, so we’ll have interactive circus activities before the performance and, although there are zombies on stage, they’re definitely more fun than frightening!”

There will be two performances on Saturday November 1, at 5-7pm and 7.30-9.30pm, and Future Yard will stay open after the second.

Book your tickets on the Future Yard website.
