There are more restaurants, cafes and eateries in Liverpool than ever before, and as well as that there seems to be more and more events for food & drink lovers in the city too. So with that in mind each and every month we will be bringing you a salivating and delicious food lovers guide to Liverpool.

Foodie Event of the Month – St. Georges Hall Winter Ales Festival
OK so not food as such but running from 26th – 28th, the Winter Ales Festival is enough to entice the biggest ‘detoxers’ out of their dry January. There are over 200 Real Ales and Ciders gracing the beautiful St. Georges Hall, whilst local food stalls line the perimeter of the venue. If you’re thinking, “but I don’t like Ale”, then worry not as there will be wine, prosecco, local gins, rums and vodkas also on offer. Deal of the Month – Keep it Local at Miyagi
As part of the “Keep it Local” campaign, Bold Street’s Miyagi will be offering 40% off the food bill with 10% donated back to supporting the ‘Save Katie’ Wright appeal.
Customers must spend £5 or more in a local independent business and then present their receipt to the server before the meal, something that is just as great for local businesses in the tough month of January as it is for your wallet. Talking deals it seems near enough every venue in the city are following suit this month and there really are some incredible discounts on great food across the area. Marco Pierre White’s Steakhouse Bar & Grill have 50% off food, the Tavern on Smithdown Road have knocked 50% off their famous breakfasts between 7-9am, and our mates over at Neighbourhood Liverpool have got this juicy January gift for you.
Dish of the Month – Big Boston Breakfast at White Wolf Yoga & Kitchen
Head over to White Wolf on Cook Street for this deliciously healthy day-starter; the Big Boston Breakfast is a vegan alternative consisting over scrambled tofu, seitan steak (a glorious meat substitute), black beans, avocado and warm tortilla. For those who are struggling to detox or diet their way through January, this meal fuses the healthiness of a vegan diet with the satisfaction and deliciousness of a proper cooked breakfast – without trying too hard with slapdash substitutes. Eatery of the Month – The 23 Club
It seems like 2016 was the year of the burger, with burger joints popping up all over the city, each one doing things in their own way. However, you might have missed this little, hidden gem. Situated on Hope Street, tucked away underneath The Clove Hith, The 23 Club boasts an array of interesting buns in a cosy, basement style setting. There is no booking required, but be quick, because tables fill up fast; it must be the best-kept secret for burger lovers in the city. Welcome to the club.
Veggie/Vegan Venue of the Month – Host
Host isn’t strictly a Vegan or Vegetarian place, however they do have separate menus for different diets. I chose this for Vegggie/Vegan Venue of the Month as the winter menu is as warming for these cold, dark months as it is mouth watering. Veggie/Vegan food can often lack that…home cooked feel. When everyone else is having a roast dinner or a bowl of scouse, Vegetarians can be stuck with the same food all year round. Host has done a brilliant job of combining their Pan-Asian theme with warming winter classics.
We have all been to or at least heard the great reviews for Maray on Bold Street. They serve up an exciting, eclectic and seasonal food menu centred around sharing plates, drawing nspiration from many parts of the globe. Each season the kitchen develop a new menu showcasing the best seasonal produce and a diverse range of cooking techniques.
Maray has now expanded to create a second site in the city and this one is on Allerton Road. Seating 74 people over two floors, an open kitchen, two beautiful marble bars and space for private dining and functions; it’s larger than Bold Street but retains all of the atmosphere and attention to detail. Of course we have to talk about Mowgli setting up their second venue on Castle Street. The Indian Street food by Nisha Katona has taken Bold Street by storm over the past couple of years so it is only right that a second location has opened. Spacious, delicious and simply fabulous.
