A Food Lover’s Guide to November in Liverpool
7 years ago
With Halloween and Bonfire Night all wrapped we get busy talking about winter food in Liverpool!
Winter is truly here. As soon as bonfire night hits, the chill arrives and our focus is on keeping our bellies full. If you want to dive straight into the pies, stews and roast dinners, then there is a little something in this months guide for you, or if you want to avoid all of that stuff before the festive munchies arrive and it becomes inescapable, then check out these Liverpool restaurants and eateries.
Foodie Event of the Month – FRESH! Camp and Furnace 28th November 2017
MOWLL and Sky Glover from Happy Go Cooking present the launch of Soul Fillers! Exciting enterprise, Soul Fillers, is anything but another catering operation; Soul Fillers pride themselves on producing fabulous food with a social conscience. While creating knock-out dishes, such as roast cauliflower and chickpea salad with tahini and pomegranate dressing – Soul Fillers provide opportunities in the catering industry for people with learning disabilities and mental health concerns.
Soul Fillers will launch their business in style. On 28th November, they will be celebrating their launch with a real knees-up at Camp and Furnace in Liverpool. There will be a drinks reception and canapĂ©s before a menu that is to die for, so much so that we couldn’t pick out a highlight to tell you about. So, click here to see it for yourself! Every course will be matched by the finest in local live music, matching the food with the music.
Must Visit Venue of the Month – Chamber Thirty Six
Unsurprisingly the vast majority of Liverpool restaurants on Berry Street serve up Chinese cuisine and while this area of the city is bursting with flavours, it can be hard to stand out on a strip like this. Well, it’s time for Chamber Thirty Six to stand out. The decor has a sleek, matt black and gold theme that makes you feel like you’re dining in a temple. The menu is vast, but includes standouts such as the Bao Buns (steamed buns) and grilled skewers. Next time you fancy heading out for a Chinese, make it Chamber Thirty Six. Check out the menu here.
Quaint and Quirky Cafe – Petit Cafe Du Coin
On the corner of Berry Street, yet spilling over onto Duke Street, sits Petit Cafe Du Coin. This building was once inhabited by fried chicken shack, Yardbird, however, it’s undergone one hell of a makeover. Inside the place is barely recognisable, much like the menu. This is, as the name suggests, much like a French cafĂ©, replacing coffee with wine. The food is well paired with the atmosphere, including sumptuous soups and sandwiches, however, the wine list steals the show. Unwind, early doors as you sample all of the wonderful wines on offer, making for a cosy, yet sophisticated evening out. Could be a game changer this one. More info and menus here.
Vegan and Veggie Venue of the Month – Ital Fresh
It wouldn’t be a food guide without heading into The Baltic Triangle now, would it? And it wouldn’t be a dip into The Baltic without some trendy, Vegan food either. When you think of Caribbean food you might not exactly think of anything vegan, apart from maybe the plantain. However, at Ital Fresh, in their inventive, D.I.Y garden, they put the vegan twist on some Caribbean classics. Jerk wings, a Cauli Burger and a Rasta Bowl top the bill, making you feel like it’s summer all over again. This is not only one for the vegans, it’s one for those of you trying to push the winter back just that little bit further too. P.S Finish it all off with some Chocolate Plantains, divine! Menus and more here.
(M)Eatery of the Month – Cowshed Liverpool
When it comes to meat, Liverpool restaurants are known for serving up a damn good steak. Located on the social strip that is Seel Street, Cowshed brings a touch of class to the ever popular bar & grill. The building and its interior is beautiful – the perfect setting for a group evening out. Cowshed serves steak. Just steak. Don’t get me wrong there are some lovely starters and desserts, but for your main, you’re having steak. There are 5 choices for you meat eaters out there, and a Cauliflower Steak for you veggies, perfect for a group outing, right? Salivate on the menu and book your table here.
