If you love your movies then read on, here are our top things to do this January for cinema lovers, that aren’t just going to the cinema.

Monday Movie Club, The Jacaranda

The Jacaranda started its Movie Club last year and found it to be a huge success, so, of course they’re keeping it going into 2018. Tonight is Quentin Tarantino’s feature-length debut, Reservoir Dogs, a cult classic that ignited the career of this unique director.

Then next Monday (16th) you can see the iconic movie Pulp Fiction at Jacaranda. Tickets are just £4 and you get free popcorn as well as 20% off the soundtrack on vinyl. The club shows no sign of letting up so keep up with what is coming to The Jac on their Facebook page.

Our wonderful Echo Arena are giving you the chance to see one of the biggest blockbuster franchises of all time in the flesh…or the metal, to be precise. The Arena will host two ‘preview’ performances of the widely anticipated Fast & Furious Live spectacular just ahead of the show’s world premiere. The action and excitement from one of the most popular and enduring film series of all-time will be brought to life in Liverpool on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 January 2018. Coco Competition, ODEON

Join Miguel and Dante as they venture to the Land of the Dead in the brand new Disney-Pixar adventure ‘Coco’, out on 19th January. To celebrate the release of ‘Coco’, ODEON are giving away an amazing family holiday to Los Angeles! You’ll stay for 4 nights in the popular Santa Monica area whilst dining out on typical Mexican food. And that’s not all, you and the family will get to experience the famous LA Dia De Los Muertos Festival in style! All you have to do is book online before January 19th to see this award touted animation and you’ll automatically be entered into the prize draw. Coco is a must see family flick this year, so why not get a little more out of the experience?

Liverpool Pride presents Waiting For B, FACT – 24th January

FACT and Liverpool Pride present the second in a series of events exploring the diversity of narratives within LGBTQ+ cinema. January’s offering, Waiting for B, follows a group of Beyonce mega-fans as they camp outside the venue for two months. Over time a mini-society develops and the documentary follows the friendships, power-struggles, highs and lows they encounter along the way.

Following the screening, Liverpool Pride will invite special guests (TBC) to discuss the themes of the film.

Tickets available here.

Dear Esther, The Philharmonic Hall – 26th January

The lines are blurring between video games and films these days, with the former looking more impressive, and having better story lines than some movies, and the latter trying to adapt the media into a blockbuster hit. The lines no become more blurred at The Phil this January as you are invited to immerse yourself in the ever-unfolding story, Dear Esther, brought to life in a performative work unlike anything you’ve seen before. There will be live narration from BAFTA-nominated narrator Oliver Dimsdale and live performance of BAFTA-winning composer Jessica Curry’s powerful score, whilst you are a viewer to this weaving story played out before your eyes. This is a truly unique experience, so get your tickets here and check out the trailer below.

There you have it, plenty to do for film fans this month on top of your usual cinema trips and home viewings. If there is something that you want to tell us about, or just something that you enjoyed, let us know on alex@theguideliverpool.com and of course get us on Facebook and Twitter too.
