A new Eurovision food walking tour is coming to Liverpool
2 years ago
A new Eurovision food tour is coming to Liverpool which will bring together some of the city’s best independent food venues with a Eurovision theme.
Foodies will have the chance to sample dishes and drink representing Eurovision countries, find out more about our musical heritage and links to the contest, and test their own Eurovision knowledge with a quiz en route.
The Eurovision Food Walking Tour has been created by award-winning Liverpool Food Tours to run in the weeks either side of the final – and hopefully throughout the summer as the Eurovision buzz goes on.
Gareth Boyd, who started LFT in 2019, says it’s a great way for locals and visitors from other countries to meet over a shared love of food.
“The excitement for Eurovision is really building and people want to get involved in all kinds of different ways so I thought let’s celebrate and take guests on a magical food journey with the theme of all things Eurovision,” he says.
“Our tours are for anybody who loves great food and drink and wants to learn a bit more and have an experience, and normally we talk about the history of the city, King John and the Liver Birds, the castle, and obviously The Beatles.

“With this one, the Fab Four will still feature but it’ll be more quirky and Eurovision-based and we’ll be referencing lots of other Liverpool musicians.
“Guests can enjoy food and/or drink at three independent venues, and each venue will be representing a country taking part in Eurovision.
“Anyone joining will be handed a bingo card with various artists on there, people like Sonia, Cliff Richard and Abba. During each stop everyone will take part in a quiz with questions relating to Eurovision and in those questions there will be a hidden song title. So, if Waterloo is mentioned and you have Abba on your card you dab that, and we’ll be giving prizes for a line and a full house at the end. It’s a bit cheesy but that’s what Eurovision is all about!”
The venues won’t be revealed to guests until the day of the tour to keep a surprise element and Gareth says it’s been a tough choice deciding who to include.
Alongside those whose dishes feature on the walk, he’ll also highlight other independents so people get ideas to try out.
“Whether the guest is local or visiting from another country, I always give them a list of various venues representing different countries just to help their journey. What typically happens with food tours is people go around with the guide, familiarize themselves and then go back.
“It’s a different way of seeing the city that benefits the venues and the guests because they get repeat visits and to explore other places as well.”
Gareth is hoping the Eurovision Food Walking Tours bring together fans from home and abroad to make new friendships over food.
“The key thing is that everyone comes in open-minded, and they all love food and drink. We have couples, friends and a lot of solo travellers booking for Eurovision tours which is fantastic because it’s another way to meet and then they might go on together for another drink.
“Obviously Eurovision will bring a lot of visitors to Liverpool who have never been here before, but the tours are just as popular with locals who want to experience the city like a tourist.
“Because there’s so much choice now and the food and drink scene has really evolved, there’s a temptation to just play it safe and go to the same places so you miss out on some really great places.
“This is what our tours are all about – giving people a chance to try somewhere and something they may never have tried before and have fun doing it.”
Eurovision Food Walking Tours are twice a day, in the morning and afternoon, from May 8, until the week after the final which is on May 13. Find out more and book your tour here.
