A new One Stop Shop is opening at the Cunard Building next week
3 years ago
The Cunard Building is to become home to a One Stop Shop, open two days a week, from Monday 23 May.
Part of the Arrivals Hall on the ground floor has been converted into an area where residents can access council services by pre-booking an appointment on Mondays and Wednesdays.
People will be able to get help paying bills by chip and pin card, with blue badge applications and uploading evidence needed for benefits and Council Tax Support.
The new location for the Central One Stop Shop replaces the previous site, within Central Library.
The reasons for the move include:
- It is a larger space, helping support more confidential conversations.
- Some customers already assume they can access services at Cunard because it is the council’s administrative headquarters. Relocating the One Stop Shop from Central Library means customers will no longer have to be redirected elsewhere.
Deputy Mayor, Cllr Jane Corbett, said:
“We know that residents really value our One Stop Shops, particularly as not everyone can access services easily online, or via a smartphone.
“The Cunard Building is centrally located and everyone knows where it is, making it really easy to find, and the Arrivals Hall is a beautiful space with an amazing history.
“It’s a much bigger and more confidential space for our residents and much better for our staff as well.”
The opening hours remain the same: Monday and Wednesday from 10am – 12:30pm and 1.30pm – 5pm.
The main entrance is on The Strand, or via an accessible entrance on Brunswick Street.
There are nine One Stop Shops across the city, with two sites operating full time, and the other seven open either two or three days per week.
