A team of fundraisers are taking on a shark dive to raise money for Birkenhead charity, NYAS

A group of fundraisers are facing their fears by taking part in a Shark Dive to raise money to support Birkenhead based national charity NYAS and raise money to help vulnerable children in care.

Heather Anderson, along with fellow NYAS employee Sara, will be joining three other brave divers in the adrenaline-fueled fundraising event in November.

They will come face to face with sharks as large as 10.5 feet, all whilst raising money for children and young people in need of NYAS services.

NYAS, the National Youth Advocacy Service, are a leading children’s rights charity who support young people across England and Wales, whether they’re in care, have special needs, or require mental health support.

Over the last 12 months alone, NYAS has supported more than 9,000 children and young people through its advocacy service.

Volunteer services team member Heather said:

“Since joining the organisation in August I have been blown away by just how much NYAS does to help those in need. My mother is a foster carer and cares for my sister who has downs syndrome, so I have a huge respect and appreciation for organisations like NYAS that give their time and energy to making life a more positive place for people like my sister and children in care.

Seeing first-hand how life changing these services can be gives me the motivation to dive head-first into a tank of creatures that might want to eat me and hopefully raise some funds while doing it!”

Paula Hanford, Head of Income Generation & Fundraising at NYAS, added:

“We’re so grateful to Heather, Sara and all our divers for taking on this incredible challenge! The money they raise will be invaluable in helping us to continue to support vulnerable children and young people, and I can’t wait to see them take the plunge!”

The event will be held at the Blue Planet Aquarium on Saturday 20th November. If you would like to support Heather and donate to the charity, you can follow her JustGiving link JustGiving.com/fundraising/heather-sharkdive.
