ALDER HEY: 10 Ways You Can Do Something Remarkable to Raise Funds for Alder Hey Children’s Charity
Alder Hey

Today on The Guide Liverpool Charity Takeover Week we’ve been showing you around the stunning Alder Hey in the Park with it’s mind blowing facilities, amazing staff and possibly the bravest patients we’ve ever come across.

The Alder Hey Children’s Charity invites you to ‘Do Something Remarkable’ in a bid to raise £6m to further fund advances in technology, vital research and to develop better, safer medicine and treatments for our children.

Now we’ve already seen just how many of you have joined the stripey Matalan army and #GetYourStripes campaign (great Christmas stocking filler idea, the fluffy socks are fab!) and there’s tonnes more ways you can do something remarkable today.

Check out these top ten ways to support the ‘Do Something Remarkable’ fundraising appeal from the Alder Hey Charity.

1 – The easiest way to donate to the appeal is by text. Simply grab your phone and text Gift Guide to 70755 to donate £5. (Donations from UK only mobiles, costs £5 plus one message at your standard network rate. 100% goes to Alder Hey Children’s Charity) Simple isn’t it? Now text everyone in your contact list and get them to do it too!

2 – You can never have too many fluffy socks…..or mugs for that matter! So even if you’ve already been the Asda in yours, get online or nip down to Matalan and pick up some #GetYourStripes merchandise. There’s even a striped pet costume so get your pooch or cat involved too! Prices start from just £3. Click here to order yours.

3 – Schools and community groups can tap into lots of free resources from the Alder Hey Charity when they sign up to hold an event. Hold an ‘Oli’ day and maybe dress up, plan a skip-a-thon or how about swapping roles with the head teacher for a day? Schools and groups can contact the Alder Hey Charity community team for help here and can download games, puzzles and activities here, to make a start!

4 – Okay so slightly more nerve wracking than a colouring competition, but likely to get you way more brownie points….how about a sky dive…..or an abseil? There’s a whole page dedicated to challenge events and The Alder Hey Charity team are there to support you all the way. From giving up chocolate to trekking the Great Wall of China, click here to check out the four key steps to registering your fundraising challenge today.

Your hard work and dedication will raise vital funds to deliver life-saving and life-changing research into childhood conditions like arthritis, cancer and diabetes, helping children everywhere.

5 – Jumping out of an aeroplane not your thing? How about something a little slower paced, but with a great incentive? Play the Alder Hey Lottery for the chance to win £1000 every week! It costs just £1 a week and takes a few minutes to register online here.

6 – And if you’re a winner, treat yourself to a limited edition Hey Roost Creature! If you’ve visited Alder Hey in the Park you’ll have noticed Roost, the hand-painted, creations that are available for adoption. There’s only 100 of them (one for each year of the Alder Hey’s 100 year history) and you get a whole package to go with it too. Find out more about buying your very own piece of Alder Hey modern art here.

7 – Running challenges are always popular in Liverpool as the city boasts a number of road races throughout the year. From thousands of dashing santa’s to rock and roll marathons and the mighty tunnel 10k, there’s a race to suit everyone. Lace you trainers up (with your stipey socks of course) and clock a few miles up fundraising for the Alder Hey Charity. Find out more and get support here.

8 – Asking friends and family to donate to Alder He Children’s Charity is a lasting and meaningful way to remember a loved one. By creating an Alder Hey Angels tribute fund, donating in memory of your loved one can make a real difference tot he 270,000 remarkable children cared for at the hospital every year. Click here for more information and support in setting up a tribute fund.

9 – Take a hike, bake a cake or invite the girls round for a coffee and a catch up, however you want to do it, holding your own event can raise much needed funds for the Alder Hey Children’s Charity. There’s lots of inspiration and support available from the charity website, www.alderheycharity.org where you can make a start on planning your own remarkable event.

10 – A very special little boy wants your help this Christmas. Kenzie is a regular patient at Alder Hey and the two have teamed up to help launch Kenzies Toy Fund to help make Christmas special for all the patients visiting over the festive period. Instead of buying toys yourself, please consider donating to Kenzie’s Toy Fund instead. All monies raised will pay for craft activities, music therapy and entertainment plus a whole host of other treats especially chosen by play specialists. Click here to find out more and donate today.

Whether you wear a Christmas jumper to work, give up biscuits, run a marathon or climb a mountain, do something remarkable and help to transform paediatric care for everyone.
