ALDER HEY: Come inside the incredible ‘Innovation Hub’ at Alder Hey where the future of medicine is being created

All this week we are shouting loud about different health care charities in our city. On Monday we took you to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, on Friday it is all about the new Royal Liverpool Hospital with R Charity and today we are showcasing Alder Hey and the fantastic work that goes on there.

Not many people realise this but Alder Hey is much more than just a hospital, it is also a leading paediatric research centre, with the aim of being a world class centre for research, innovation and education, pioneering and developing new treatments for children and young people.

At any time there are over 100 clinical research studies taking place, ranging from observational studies to complex, interventional clinical trials supported by the NIHR Alder Hey Clinical Research Facility.

BUT the charity needs more money to be able to continue supporting this incredible facility, based right here in our city, helping children on Merseyside, throughout the UK and the rest of the world for generations to come.

Come inside the Innovation Hub (or as many of the staff like to call it ‘the Bat Cave’ and see the incredible work that goes on, from 3D printing for surgeons to be able to see first hand what an organ might look like before surgery, to the absolutely unreal virtual technology room, where you can literally walk through the heart of a patient before performing an operation.
