ALDI donates pancake kits to Liverpool charity for Pancake Tuesday
4 years ago
Ahead of Pancake Day, Aldi has donated a selection of pancake making kits to a Liverpool community group, Liverpool Six Community Association.
The kits, which have been shared with charities and foodbanks across the UK, provide families with all the ingredients they need to take to the kitchen this Pancake Day.
The donation is part of the supermarket’s partnership with community giving platform Neighbourly, which sees Aldi donate surplus food from stores to help support its local communities.
Liverpool Six Community Association runs a community centre for local people and supports them on a wide variety of social issues, from healthcare to job opportunities. They offer meeting facilities for residents free of charge, alongside school holiday play schemes for children and young people.
Shirley Marshall from Liverpool Six Community Association said: “Many of the families we work with live in low-income households, so often do not get to have a treat. Sharing these pancake kits with our families will be incredibly special. It is small things like this that can make a big difference.”Â
Mary Dunn, Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility at Aldi UK, said: “We hope our pancake kits help spread a bit of joy to families, providing them with the ingredients to cook up some tasty creations in the kitchen.”
Steve Butterworth, from Neighbourly, added: “We believe every child should get to enjoy the fun and deliciousness of Pancake Day, no matter what their situation. Aldi’s additional donations will go a long way to putting a smile on children’s faces this Pancake Day.”
Aldi’s partnership with Neighbourly donates 650,000 meals a month to charities throughout the UK. Donations to support children and families are increased during school holidays as part of the supermarket’s Community Cupboard programme.
A record-breaking one million meals were redistributed over the recent Christmas holidays, with approximately 800,000 meals going to community groups supporting children.
