As the Queen turns 90 we have 9 things that your fun-loving Nan could do on Merseyside…

Queen Elizabeth is 90 today, that’s some age isn’t it?

Here at The Guide Liverpool it got us thinking about just how much us Scousers love our nans, the love for our white-haired, knick-knack collecting nan’s knows no bounds.

We’ve checked out the top 5 feet-tapping activities for fun-loving Nan’s of 90 (or there abouts) across Merseyside who love a natter and a bit of cake!

  • Would your nan like to waltz away the afternoon with a nice hot cuppa and some cake in the most beautiful of surroundings? St Georges Hall holds tea dances each month with live music for just £6. For more information, check out www. Liverpoolcityhalls.co.uk

  • We know Nan’s love a day out and where better to let your Nan roam free than the Albert Dock. So much to see and do and this year’s event calendar is more jam packed than your Nans handbag. Steam on the Dock celebrates the Steam Age from 6th May and Vintage on the Dock is here 9-10th July. Plus a feast of tea rooms, coffee shops and restaurants your Granny won’t get bored. More info on the Albert Dock 2016 event calendar here www.albertdock.com

  • If the city centre is a bit too far check out the Huyton Suite, Huyton Village as they hold a tea dance every Wednesday from 1pm til 4pm with tea, coffee and biscuits thrown in for your £1.70 entry fee. No booking necessary, just bring your dancing shoes. Find out more at www.lcvs.org.uk

  • And if you’re over the Mersey you don’t have to miss out! The Floral Pavilion, Blue Lounge in New Brighton also holds ‘Strictly Tea Dance’ on Monday afternoons with the same laid back approach to proceedings. It’s a ten from Len! £6 on the door and just bring yourself! More info at www.floralpavilion.com

  • If your nan isn’t too light on her feet but loves a good sing-song how about a concert at Sefton Park’s famous Palm House? A musical memories concert is set to take place on Tuesday 26th April at 2pm featuring the songs and music of Bert Bacharach. All together now, ‘Raindrops keep falling on my head…’ not likely in the beautiful Palm House. Call 0151 7269304 or check out www.palmhouse.org.uk to book. Tickets are £6 on the door.

  • Is your Nan a bit of a rocker? Is a tea dance and a bit of a sing-along way too tame for her? Then how about an evening of full on rock and roll and comedy? The Golden Oldies is on at The Royal Court Theatre until 14th May and promises to be a laugh out loud experience. The story is about how board games and Countryfile can quickly escalate into a battle of the bands and the ages! Turn your hearing aid up and get ready to rock! For tickets and more info call 0151 709 4321 or click www.royalcourtliverpool.co.uk Find out more tonight on Bay TV Liverpool when Jay chats to Eithne Brown from the cast on The Guide Liverpool.

  • We know our Nans love a sing-song and if your Nan still has her dancing shoes on then why not take her to a gig? Has she experienced the Echo Arena yet?Comfy seats, easy parking and lots of disabled access if necessary but best of all a lineup of incredible legends over the next few months. Donny Osmond has recently announced he will be there in January but this year alone there is Elton, Rod Stewart, Earth Wind & Fire, The Temptations & Four Tops and the man who Nans everywhere love, Barry Manilow is even coming to play. More info in our Echo Arena guide below.

  • How about a movie in the beautiful surroundings of The Phil, whether it’s a classic film or something new the Philharmonic is a great spec to watch your favourite or your Nan’s favourite film. On Tuesday 26th April Dame Maggie Smith will be on the big screen inher film ‘The Lady in the Van’. Your Nan might not live in a van but she will love this true story of the relationship between Bennett and Miss Shepherd, a woman who ‘temporarily’ parked her van in Bennett’s London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years. More info on the Phil’s site here.

  • Does your Nan like a bit of culture? We’re proud of our heritage up here in the North West and The Atkinson has the lot. As Southport’s beautiful new home for music, theatre, art, poetry, literature and history, right in the middle of Lord Street, why not treat your nan to an afternoon of local history and reminisce about days gone by with an artisan sharing platter and a brew in the Bakery restaurant afterwards. For more info about what’s on at The Atkinson check out www.theatkinson.co.uk or call 01704 533333

Failing all that, there’s always the bingo! Happy Birthday Liz!
