Bella Ramsey “loves being back in Liverpool” for premiere of season two of Time
1 year ago
Bella Ramsey has been speaking our Josh on the red carpet at St. George’s Hall.
Bella Ramsey is amongst the stars in Liverpool this evening for the premier of Time season two, the prison drama filmed here in the city.
Bella told us how much they enjoy filming in Liverpool saying “the people are so friendly” and that they’re glad to be back in town for the premier which is being held at St. George’s Hall.
Bella has also said they would watch Pixar film Finding Nemo to wind down after playing her most âhardenedâ character to date in the prison drama.
The 20-year-old, who has appeared in Game Of Thrones and The Last Of Us, stars in the BBC series as Kelsey, a drug user navigating the prison system.
Bella said: âShe puts on this incredible front where she doesnât want anybody to see her vulnerability, so in a way sheâs like one of the most hardened characters Iâve played, because of that front, but inside thereâs this deep, blistering vulnerability that is very much there.
âIt was hard work. We did long days and it was intense subject matter. I had to come back and watch Finding Nemo a few times to get me out of it.
âIt was an amazing experience. Whenever I get a chance to do something as intense and as gritty I jump at the opportunity because itâs what I live for.â
Writer Jimmy McGovern, who also penned the first series starring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham, said he was not previously aware of Ramsey but his grandchildren were and âcouldnât believeâ he was working with the actor.
The writer said he had been converted to a superfan and said Ramsey was âreally, really goodâ.
He said the new series, set in a womenâs prison, was âintenseâ and would show viewers âeverything thatâs wrong with the British prison systemâ.
Jimmy McGovern, who wrote the drama with Helen Black and visited womenâs prisons for research, said the dialogue was different to that in the first series.
He said: âIn a womenâs prison they talk and talk and talk. You could learn more in one visit to a womenâs prison than in 10 to a menâs.â
Julie Graham, who plays Lou in the series, said the cast bonded because of the dark subject matter.
She said: âBecause the subject matterâs so heavy, you have to become close quite quickly so then thereâs a real bond there.â
