Box on the Docks has grown in popularity over the past 5 years, establishing itself as a well-executed white collar boxing charity event. The quality of the event and support from its attendees is reflected by the incredible £48,000 raised on the night.
Watch all of the action from a jam packed evening above with Radio City 2’s and our very own Claire Simmo.
For the 3rd year in a row, the sold out event was held at the Titanic Hotel on Stanley dock and accommodated 400 spectators who enjoyed an arrival drink, 3 course meal and 10 amazing bouts of boxing. The event saw the anticipated rematch between Radio City 2’s breakfast presenter Rossie versus Fazakerley 9 Jamie McVey. Another element of hype was added when Radio City’s Scott Hughes was called out by Leanne & Dave to fight against Patrick McBride – Aka The Milk Tray Man. The spectators where surprised to observe an unexpected appearance from recently retired boxer Derry Matthews when he and Jamie boxed in the final bout of the night.
Radio City’s Cash for Kids first partnered with Fazakerley 9 in 2011 to help raise money for the charity which was set up in memory of James McVey from the Liverpool suburb of Fazakerley. James father Jamie set up the charity to improve social wellbeing, reduce the effects of poverty and where possible undertake projects that will enable social inclusion within the Liverpool community.
Radio City’s Cash for Kids and Fazakerley 9 would like to thank all those who attended and support the event, with special thanks to Barclays and Barclaycard who volunteered on the night.
