Friends, family, and food are what celebrations are all about.
And while the run up to Christmas Day can seem like Groundhog Day with a constant round of three-course roast menus you’ve booked so long ago you’ve forgotten what you’ve ordered, at Bundobust you’re promised a festive feast that’s bursting with tons of different dishes and flavours.
“And, while you can book ahead so we can accommodate large groups, we always have space for walk-ins, so it’s great for spontaneous last-minute get-togethers or when you need a break from the Christmas shopping spree,” says Sarah Hardy, marketing manager for the Indian Street Food and Craft Beer favourite in Bold Street.
“Our restaurants are casual, very relaxed, and open to everyone, so it’s a really good, easy option for Christmas.”
Bundobust began as a pop-up at festivals and fun events when Leeds founders Marko Husak and Mayur Patel realised their craft beers and fabulous Indian street food were the perfect complement to each other.
Since then it’s grown from one restaurant into a destination group of five, including a micro-brewery where all the pale ales, lagers and stouts that refresh its happy customers are created.
“The food at Bundobust is always about sharing so you get lots of different dishes that everyone can dig into and spoon a bit onto their plate,” adds Sarah, “and you can try lots of textures and flavours together, like sweet and sour, or crunchy and smooth; and for Christmas it works out really well for groups.
“You’ve don’t have to pre-order, you just tell us how many people, and then you can either choose all your dishes or we’ll select a spread for you. And at this time of year, we always have some Christmas specials too.”
Among Bundobust’s yuletide dishes are its now iconic sprout bhajis, sprout, broccoli and onion bhajis spiked with fennel and chilli and served with a spiced cranberry chutney; its festive dahl, a Bundo favourite re-booted for Christmas it’s a warming and smoky lentil curry, boosted with black cardamom, clove and cinnamon, and its Christmas Kulfi, Indian ice cream with nutmeg, cardamom and orange peel.
Sarah adds: “We also do a mince pie paratha, sultana, raisin, cinnamon, clove, star anise and coconut parathas cooked on a traditional tawa, and Biriyani Balls. Biriyani is a dish always served at celebrations like birthdays and Diwali, and these are our version of arancini, celebratory rice balls spiced with mint, saffron, ginger and rose, served in a rich tomato sauce and topped with crispy onions.”
Customers are encouraged to get combos with a mix of traditional and festive dishes, and you can even get a massive Crimbo Bundo Combo that serves eight people for just ÂŁ115 and includes everything on the menu including the Christmas specials!
Its owned-brewed beers are designed with its dishes in mind to produce the perfect paring and add to the experience, and there’s a choice of wines, spirits and cocktails, and winter warmers like mulled wine and house chai, a warming Indian hot drink made with boiled milk, ginger, masala, and sugar.
The friendly atmosphere at Bundobust is always an attraction, but if the weather’s making you want to stay home, Bundobust has now partnered with Uber Eats so they can bring your favourite Indian food and drink – everything you need for a cracking Christmas party or meal with your mates or your family – to you.
