Cains Brewery Village shortlisted for National Placemaking Award
8 months ago
Cains Brewery Village is Liverpool’s iconic city-centre industrial landmark and has been described by English Heritage as one of the finest purpose-built breweries in Britain.
Once a place of production it is now a place of consumption with it being one of the city’s most-visited unique attraction. Over the last decade, the much loved brewery has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind, mixed-use destination and serving as a catalyst for regeneration in the deprived Toxteth area. A neighbourhood once overrun by industrial dereliction and urban decay has become one with a thriving and cosmopolitan retail, hospitality, cultural and local business ecosystem of over 300 vendors.
Not only that, more recently the destination’s runaway success has also helped make a persuasive economic case for greater public investment and major infrastructure upgrades. Perhaps the most high profile of these is the new Liverpool Baltic train station, which will be situated adjacent to Cains Brewery Village. This, in turn, has attracted over 3,000 new mixed-living, social, affordable, and executive homes, helping to establish a more diverse, inclusive, and aspirational community.
An active ambassador for investment in North West England, a critical milestone was reached in 2023, with BOXPARK choosing Cains Brewery Village as the home for its first site outside London. The venue officially opened to the public on 19th April and is set to become a popular addition, alongside other much-loved brands including: Bongo’s Bingo, Big Fang Collective, Jacaranda Baltic, Punch Tarmey’s, ArCains, Baltic Market, Red Brick Market and Northern Lights.
Commenting on making the 2024 shortlist, a spokesperson from Cains Village Brewery, said:
“We are thrilled to secure a place as a finalist at a national level. This is a testament to our wider team, who work tirelessly to bring-forward the best-in-class responsible regeneration and sustainable placemaking. A win for Cains Brewery Village on the night will not just be one for the destination, but the Baltic Triangle and Liverpool.”
Kim Johnson MP, in whose constituency Cains Brewery Village is situated, is a vocal supporter of the Property Award application. She says:
“Cains Brewery Village has revolutionised this old industrial site – and district of the city. I’m someone who, with family and friends, is a regular visitor to the diverse businesses there, and am delighted at the impact that Cains has had in creating a destination in an often overlooked corner of the city, and my constituency. They have created a model to inspire others, and I wish them every success.”
