Carragher, Rush, Fowler, Barnes & more to show Racism the Red Card at Prenton Park

Prenton Park is set to stage one of the biggest event’s of Show Racism the Red Card’s 20th Anniversary celebrations this May, with an array of the regions best footballing talent from over the years involved. Jamie Carragher, John Barnes, Ian Rush, Graham Stuart, Pat Nevin and Robbie Fowler are just a pick of the players looking to grace the pitch and who are set to play against an all-star celebrity team from stage and screen.

The UK’s anti-racism educational charity was established in January 1996. The organisation utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. The majority of the charity’s campaign output is the delivery of education to young people and adults in their school, workplace and at events held in football stadiums. Across Britain, Show Racism the Red Card delivers training to more than 50,000 individuals per year. After 20 years of successful campaigning, their mission to end racism through education, still goes on.

This event is being held to celebrate all the hard work SRtRC has done and in appreciation to all the staff and volunteers who have helped make this, their mission, possible. The event puts on a fantastic display of support that the charity holds throughout the country’s footballing community, whilst further involving the public about their values.

Ged Grebby, SRtRC CEO said “We’re delighted to have so much activity in the UK, surrounding our 20th Anniversary celebrations. Liverpool and particularly the North West have always been, a key area for our activity and for them to be hosting the game, pays dividends to how the clubs and communities are involved with promoting what we do”.

Len McCluskey, General Secretary of Unite, said; “Unite is proud to support the fantastic work Show Racism the Red Card does to tackle racism in society through its educational programmes using the power, influence and popularity of the beautiful game of football. The objectives of SRtRC are as relevant today as they were when the organisation was first established 20 years ago. We know that racism takes many forms and is ever changing and it is only through ongoing education that we can combat its insidious affects and build the cohesive society we all want to see. I wish all those involved in the work of Show Racism the Red Card my congratulations on their 20th Anniversary.”

The event is set to take place on Saturday 14th May 2016, the day before all of the final premierleague fixtures of the season, being held on Sunday 15 May. There will be 2 games on the day, one being a 40 minute youth match, which has had community engagement with local schools and then the star studded main match at 4pm. The charity are also providing the opportunity for 2 members of the public to be part of the teams and play alongside their heroes.
