Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week in Liverpool with BAMBI’s
7 years ago
World Breastfeeding week kicks off with a tree full of boobs, a quiz for the kids and a tonne of breastfeeding families coming together at the World Museum, what’s not to like!
We know that breastfeeding helps babies to thrive, has long-term health benefits for women, yields economic benefits and enhances the wellbeing of all yet the road to successful feeding can be a frustrating and emotional one and that’s where Liverpool BAMBI’s come in.
Liverpool BAMBIS (Babies & Mums Breastfeeding Information and Support) are a team of peer supporters who offer breastfeeding support and information to pregnant women, breastfeeding mums & their families. Peer supporters are mums who, typically, have breastfed their own babies and received formal training in breastfeeding support. They work both in the Liverpool Women’s Hospital and in the community across all 26 of the Liverpool Children’s Centres.
Liverpool BAMBI’s has created a fabulous ‘tree of life’ exhibition at the World Museum on William Brown Street. The display is situated on the 1st floor inside the treasure house and features pictures that have been sent in from women across Liverpool to celebrate world breastfeeding week, 1-7 August 2017.
The tree has been decorated with woollen boobs each containing a breastfeeding fact for the public to view. There is a quiz running this week for younger children who can answer the questions by reading the facts on the woollen boobs. That’s what we call hands on! BAMBI’s staff will be at the World Museum on Wednesday 2nd August between 10-12 for a celebratory gathering and you’re invited to join the breastfeeding party.
Also to support world breastfeeding week, as part of the Merseyside Breastfeeding Collaborative, Bambis will be joining forces with the other breastfeeding services for the Global Big Latch event which is taking place at Knowsley Safari Park on the Friday 4th August. The event will start at 9:00 am with the big latch on taking place at 10:30 am. Various other activities will take place until 2pm. Click here to find out more and get involved.
To join in the fun throughout World Breastfeeding Week 2017 and to share your pictures check out #treeoflife and #WBFW2017 on social networks.
More retailers are now advertising their spaces as Breastfeeding Friendly, making trips into the city less stressful for expectant or brand new parents wondering where they can pit stop to feed their little ones. Moving with the times enables mums to breastfeed in public, while having a cuppa, reading a mag or even wandering around the shops, and it’s not before time! Sitting in dark, windowless rooms or toilets to feed precious little ones is most definitely a thing of the past.
