Childline Liverpool urgently needs volunteers & founder Esther Rantzen wants you!

21/11/2018

Could you volunteer just 4 hours of your time to offer support to children in their time of need?

The founder of Childline Dame Esther Rantzen has paid a visit to the Liverpool Childline base on Wednesday 21st November. Esther spent time touring the base at the Hargreaves Centre on Great Homer Street and chatted with volunteers about the issues young people are raising during counselling sessions.

Watch above as we find out more about volunteering with Childline and how you can get involved.

Since Childline was launched in 1986, the service has helped more than 4.5 million children on the phone and online. The Liverpool base opened in 2007, and since then, volunteers have delivered *175,734 counselling sessions.

Dame Esther Rantzen said: “I loved spending time with our wonderful volunteers in Liverpool. Their passion and dedication to be there for every child who needs our help is truly inspiring.”

At the moment, Childline can only answer three out of every four calls, and the Liverpool base is recruiting more volunteer counsellors and switchboard operators.

Janet Boden, Service Manager for Childline in Liverpool said: “It is always a pleasure to welcome Dame Esther Rantzen to our base, her passion for Childline and providing a listening ear for children has never diminished and our volunteers really enjoy spending time with her

Stephanie Kelly, Volunteer Co-ordinator at the Liverpool base said: “Without our volunteers we simply would not be able to do what we do and Childline would not exist. The team of volunteers we have here in Liverpool are absolutely amazing people.

“But we need more people to come and be a part of Childline in Liverpool, so if you want to help children and have a few hours a week to spare, a volunteer counsellor role could be the place for you.”

Liverpool ONE has chosen the NSPCC as it’s official charity partner this Christmas and will be supporting the ‘Light for Every Child’ campaign with choir performances.

If you’re part of a school or community choir, you’re invited to show off your talents and entertain Christmas shoppers, whilst also fundraising for the NSPCC. Every penny donated will go towards helping to protect children across the Liverpool region. To book a choir performance, click here.
