Christmas drive-in cinema to bring festive films to Southport

The ultimate Christmas drive-in cinema is coming to Southport this December.

A Christmas Drive-In Cinema will feature all of your festive favourites on the BIG screen at Victoria Park in Southport between Friday, 9th December and Sunday, 18th December 2022. 

There will be movies perfect for families including: Elf, Frozen, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone, Home Alone 2, The Muppets A Christmas Carol, Polar Express, Nativity, Nativity 2, The Santa Clause, Deck The Halls, and Jingle All The Way. 

Older movie-goers will love films including Die Hard, Die Hard 2, It’s A Wonderful Life, Love Actually and Last Christmas. 

There will be a choice of film times too with matinees at 2.30pm, evening showings at 6pm and evening screenings at 8.30pm. 

The Moonlight Drive In is the only drive-in cinema experience in Southport this Christmas, featuring films for both the little and big kids – all within the picturesque grounds of Victoria Park.

Moonlight Drive In owner Scott Mackin said:

“Tickets are selling really well! They are going out as more people here about what’s coming to Southport this Christmas.

“We first had the idea two years ago during the Covid pandemic, on a different site. 

“Unfortunately the Government then brought in the Tier system of restrictions, and we thought it was too big a risk to go ahead with it back then. 

“But there was huge interest in the idea so we are delighted to be staging it now! We had done all the planning so thought we would try again. 

“We approached the Southport Flower Show and Victoria Park Events General Manager Alan Adams about staging the cinema drone-in at Victoria Park and he was delighted by the idea. He has been really supportive of the event.” 

The reaction to news of a drive-in cinema in Southport has been really positive. 

Scott said: “The response has been really, really positive since we announced it! 

“People love the idea, they are looking forward to trying something new and exciting this Christmas. 

“We have 16 films that people can choose from now, but we have also left some spaces in the calendar in case some films become really popular and more people want to see them. We don’t want to see anyone miss out. 

“Home Alone, Elf and Frozen are proving to be really popular so far!

“We have a real mixture of films, lots of kids’ favourites, perfect for families, and movies which older audiences will love.
