Civic leaders come together to champion Liverpool’s Pride and support Sahir

Civic leaders and organisations from across the Liverpool City Region have come together to back Sahir and make sure Liverpool’s Pride celebration goes ahead this weekend — proving once again that this city always shows up when it matters most.

When it looked like Liverpool might miss out on this important moment of visibility and unity, local charity Sahir stepped up to keep Pride alive. Now, thanks to their work and the backing of community and civic partners, the city is ready to come together for a day that celebrates love, equality and everything that makes Liverpool’s LGBTQ+ community so strong.

On Saturday 26 July, thousands will gather at the Pier Head to hear from activists and local voices before a community march sets off from George’s Parade along The Strand towards M&S Bank Arena. The march, organised by Sahir and supported by Protect Scouse Dolls, promises to bring a powerful show of togetherness to Liverpool’s waterfront.

Liverpool City Council, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and the Merseyside Police Commissioner’s office have all thrown their weight behind the event, helping shape the route, keep people safe and ensure the day runs smoothly.

Ant Hopkinson, Chief Executive of Sahir, said:
“There was no way Sahir was going to stand by and let Liverpool miss out on Pride this year. The support we’ve had from civic leaders and the community has been amazing.

“With a new route and programme, this year’s Pride is about sending a clear message of unity and resilience — showing the world what Liverpool does best.”

Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram added:
“Liverpool has always been a city that stands up for what matters. Thanks to Sahir and everyone who’s come together to make Pride happen, we’ll be able to celebrate and stand in solidarity once again. Pride shows what this region is really about — kindness, inclusion and community spirit.”

Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, said:
“After the initial cancellation it’s been inspiring to see people come together and make Pride a reality. We’re proud to support Sahir and help deliver a safe, joyful and inclusive march for everyone. Liverpool is a city that celebrates diversity and stands up for equality.”

Claire McColgan, Director of Culture for Liverpool, said:
“Pride is more than a celebration — it’s a vital part of our city’s cultural calendar and a moment for people to come together and show what Liverpool stands for. Well done to Sahir and the community for making this happen. We’re proud to help make it a reality and we’re looking forward to seeing what comes next for Pride in Liverpool.”

Merseyside Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell said:
“Liverpool Pride is a powerful statement of unity and love. In a time when hate and division try to drown out voices, Pride shows that this city will always stand tall. Every person deserves to live free from fear and be who they are — Liverpool’s Pride sends a clear message that diversity will always be welcomed and celebrated here.

“Pride is more than a celebration — it’s a promise that we’ll keep fighting for equality and building a future where everyone feels safe, seen and supported. Together, we are louder and prouder — and in Liverpool, love always wins.”
