Coeliac Awareness Week 8-14th May 2017 Here’s 9 gluten-free eateries right on your doorstep

This week is Coeliac Awareness Week and we’re joining the Free-Volution to highlight the region’s best gluten-free eateries.

If you didn’t already know, Coeliac (pronounced Cee-Lee-Ack) disease is a common digestive and auto-immune condition where the small intestine becomes inflamed and is unable to digest the nutrients it needs to keep us healthy. According to NHS Choices, Coeliac disease is caused by an adverse reaction to gluten a type of protein found in cereals such as barley, rye and wheat.

The bad news for sufferers is that gluten is found in any food that contains those three cereals so it pretty much wipes pasta, cakes, breakfast cereal, some bread, sauces and ready meals, right off the board. You can now understand the frustrations of those who can’t simply nip to the nearest supermarket, bakers or fast food outlet for a snack at lunch time!

While there is no current cure for Coeliac disease, switching to a gluten-free diet is often the best way to control symptoms, avoid flare ups and consequently, crippling pain.

Luckily, things are improving for Coeliac sufferers in the North West. Liverpool’s thriving restaurant and coffee shop scene now boasts a wealth of gluten-free snacks, meals and healthy drinks and we’re here to share some healthy-gut appreciation! We’ve put together 9 gluten-free eateries serving up tasty dishes, right here in Liverpool. Check them out….
