Based on the classic tale written by CS Lewis, the story will be brought to life through lively modern dances and captivating ballet. Performed by some of the city’s most talented performers, this beautiful production features plenty of colourful characters and a sumptuous score of music.
After the huge success of previous Youth Ballet productions Peter Pan and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, ballet has become a regular feature in the Creative Learning Department’s programme. In a world that is increasingly becoming about competitions and exams, the Liverpool Empire’s Creative Learning Team felt it was vital to develop a project that offered young people the chance to be a part of the entire theatrical experience. In a bid to inspire and introduce more people to ballet, the team created the Empire Theatre Youth Ballet company, which gives local young dancers the opportunity to improve their skills in the physical and creative side of storytelling and performing.
Being a part of the Empire Theatre Youth Ballet company involves taking part in ballet classes to develop strength and technique. Classes are divided by age and experience and there is a wide range of abilities within the company, ranging from highly trained dancers who study at professional colleges, to complete beginners who have never done ballet before.
Creative Learning Officer, Lauren Taylor, who directed and choreographed the production said, “Being a part of the Youth Ballet Company is a journey of pure passion and dedication, it is a wonderful supportive experience. The dancers’ dedication and hard work is an inspiration to see, they genuinely love being a part of this project and have truly become a company.”
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is based on the much loved story by CS Lewis. Step through the wardrobe and follow Lucy and her siblings on their quest to save Narnia from the White Witch’s spell with the help of the lovable Mr Tumnus, the Majestic Lion Aslan and many more delightful characters. Can they save Narnia from its enduring winter and restore it to its once beautiful state? Or will evil prevail?
The Empire Youth Theatre’s production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is at the Liverpool Empire from Friday 13th to Saturday 14th October.
