Completion of Bootle Strand demolition paves the way for major improvements
38 minutes ago
Bootle Strand’s demolition work has now come to an end, marking an important point in the overall plans to transform Bootle Town Centre.
These plans include creating an environment that is even better to work, live and spend time in while helping support the future for businesses, residents and visitors.
Next on the agenda is to prepare the site for a redesign of Mons Square, along with improvements to the Salt and Tar events space. Forming a bit part of Phase One, these improvements will help the Strand Transform Programme.
Throughout the process, VINCI Building placed a strong emphasis on safety, sustainability and social value during the demolition process. Over 60 tonnes of brick and concrete were processed on site and reused as engineering fill, much of which will be retained for the next phase of construction. In addition, approximately 8,000 tonnes of brick and concrete were processed on site and reused as engineering fill, much of which will be retained for the next phase of construction. This approach significantly reduces waste and minimises vehicle movements.
Boosting local employment, the demolition at Bootle Strand has helped create eight full-time jobs with more opportunities expected as construction goes on through VINCI Building’s partnership with Sefton@Work.
Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy and Skills, said:
“This is an important step forward for Bootle. Quality public spaces and improved facilities that people have asked for, starting with a new Mons Square and better infrastructure for Salt and Tar. Thank you to residents, businesses and our project partners for their patience and support as we move into the next phase.”
Activity will centre on preparing for construction and design work within the coming months to deliver a new public realm and improved links around the town centre.
Time-lapse footage of the demolition is now available to view on Sefton Council’s website to allow the public to see the scale of the transformation.
