CONTENT Liverpool kick starts its 2024 programme of live shows with The Vaccines
12 months ago
The Vaccines perform on Saturday 13 January, then The Cheap Thrills and Bill Ryder-Jones touch down across the coming weeks with more shows to be revealed soon.
Since launching in May 2023, CONTENT in Liverpool has firmly established itself as one of the UK’s most in-demand live music and events spaces.
Last year featured an incredible run of shows with Caroline Polachek, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Pretenders with Chrissie Hynde, Maisie Peters, Stereolab, Craig Charles Funk & Soul House Party, Liverpool Disco Festival and the launch for Homotopia’s 20th anniversary.
And with the new year now here, there’s a trio of unmissable dates to kick-start 2024 with The Vaccines, Cheap Thrills and Bill Ryder-Jones all performing over the coming weeks at CONTENT and more shows will be announced soon.
First up it’s a very special show as Rough Trade present The Vaccines on Saturday 13 January. This unique event celebrates the release of their new album, Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations, released via Thirty Tigers on Friday 12 January. The title comes from a misheard lyric from Don McClean’s American Pie, a song that for the band’s Justin Young fittingly evokes the death of innocence and the American Dream.
With a mammoth five UK Top 5 albums – including a Number 1 with 2012’s Come of Age – and a fierce live reputation forged through arena-filling headline shows and unforgettable slots at Glastonbury and Reading/Leeds, The Vaccines continue to be a vital band in the British rock canon.
Local Scouse trailblazers The Cheap Thrills return to Liverpool with a new “Keep Cheap” night at CONTENT for their biggest hometown show to date on Saturday 2 March. Off the back of a sell out show at O2 Academy Liverpool, a Boss Night appearance and a huge Waterfront show with Britpop Heroes James, this show is going to be epic.
The Cheap Thrills’ single Reborn last year received recognition from The Independent, The Evening Standard and was championed by national stations BBC 6 Music & Radio X.
Then Thursday 21 March is when to experience the mesmeric songs of a Liverpool icon and The Coral co-founder Bill Ryder-Jones, whose music is located at the point where introspection and redemption meet; he’s mastered a distinct and personal mood music, executed with a studio deftness and offering the listener a space to be themselves. Bill’s latest album, Iechyd Da, is being release on Domino Records on Friday 12 January.
At times joyous and grand, at others intimate and heartbreaking, the past few years spent producing other artists have provided that gentle nudge to expand into new territory, from kids’ choirs and tender strings to dramatically re-contextualised disco samples.
Mike Deane, CONTENT’s Head of Music, says:
“We’re all absolutely buzzing from such a strong launch as a new live music space in 2023 and attracting such a great range of world class artists, DJs and performers to this incredible new Liverpool venue. We’re working with everyone from local independents to established national promoters and curating a programme for 2024 which will build upon what we’ve started. And with The Vaccines, The Cheap Thrills and Bill Ryder-Jones up first, it’s a fantastic start with lots more to come.”
Upcoming shows:
- The Vaccines – Saturday 13 January
- The Cheap Thrills – Saturday 2 March
- Bill Ryder-Jones – Thursday 21 March
Further artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
