Countdown to The British Music Experience launch: 9 reasons we cant wait to check it out

The British Music Experience (BME) is putting the finishing touches to what is set to be the biggest musical addition to the city since The Cavern.

But all good things come to those who wait and to ensure every aspect of this much anticipated, permanent exhibition is of the highest standard, The BME Trust and The Operator have decided to reschedule the launch date.

Originally set to open in February, The British Music Experience, housed in the former first-class lounge of the iconic Cunard Building, Pier Head will now open on 9th March 2017.

The curator and dedicated exhibition team have made fantastic progress with the coordination and installation of more than 600 valuable artefacts and costumes, some on loan from the prestigious V&A Museum, plus state of the art, interactive visitor experiences, they said:

“We look forward to opening our doors in March and giving our customers this unique insight into the evolution of British music and allowing them to see up close some of the most iconic music objects of all time.”

For those who snapped up the first wave of tickets to see the exhibition between February 11th and March 9th, a member of the BME Customer Service team will be in touch shortly to reschedule an alternative date.

As we wait with baited breath to see this magnificent collection of our musical history, here’s 9 reasons why we cant wait to get inside!

1 – Step Back in Time

One visit to the BME will transport you through more than 70 years of British music history and the icons its produced. Step back in time and wander from 1945 to the present day to hear a soundtrack influenced by social and political change.

2 – Centre Stage

The exhibition features a huge event space with a stage that will host master classes, Q&A’s and live gigs! Imagine seeing your musical hero during your visit!

3 – Lorra Lorra Stuff

When we say there’s iconic artefacts, we mean iconic. From Noel Gallagher’s Union flag Gibson guitar to a haul of clothes belonging to our beloved Cilla (to name just two), and we’re told there’s an impressive new addition for the Liverpool launch too!

4 – Star Man

Fans of the late, great David Bowie can get their fix with original stage costumes from his Ziggy Stardust collection. Gone but most definitely not forgotten at the BME.

5 – Rolling with the Times

The BME is not just about looking back, since it’s move from the O2 Arena in London, the team behind the exhibition have been refreshing the current collection to feature items from artists making and breaking the charts right now, think Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith or Adele maybe?

6 – What’s Your Jam?

Whether you’re into pop, indie, ska, reggae, grime or just about any other genre, there is something on display to suit almost every taste. Gold jumpsuit with a side of Brit Pop please!

7 – There’s A Place

The BME Trust hail Liverpool as ‘the Capital of British Music’ and chose the stunning Cunard Building as it’s new permanent home, allowing more music fans the chance view a massive collection of Beatles and other scouse acts memorabilia, right on our own doorstep.

8 – Dancing Queen

The exhibition itself takes visitors on a journey and we bet you can’t help but bust some moves as you explore your way through this interactive timeline peppered with legendary performers such as Freddy Mercury, the Spice Girls and artists from the British Invasion (to name just a few).

9 – Make Sure You’re Connected

Everyone loves music and we can’t wait to hear you rave about the BME. You can get updates and insights ahead of the opening on Twitter, follow @thebme and on Facebook by clicking here.
