Local clubs and groups that support the community of Croxteth are being invited to apply for up to £5,000 funding as part of a participatory budget project being run by Merseyside Police, Liverpool City Council, Mersey Care and Cobalt Housing.

The project, “Our Croxteth”, is aimed at strengthening community resilience by supporting local clubs and groups, which in turn helps to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and support vulnerable members of the community.

Sergeant Brian Pearson from the local policing team said:

“The “Our Croxteth” event will aim to welcome many amazing groups in Croxteth and give them the opportunity to receive funding to further develop existing projects and start new ones as well as providing a positive opportunity for our communities to meet each other, build relationships and networks.

“Potential applicants can come down to Croxteth Communiversity next week to have a cuppa and a chat with the team. We are all excited to see what projects are brought to the table and would urge anyone who thinks they’ve got an initiative underway that would benefit from some extra funding, to get involved! We’re also keen to speak to anyone who may wish to get involved in helping us decide on where the funding should go.

“The approach is straightforward – community groups apply for funding and local people will make decisions together about how the funds will be spent.”

“We want to hear your great ideas, small or large, on what you think will make a difference in Croxteth.”

A spokesperson from Cobalt Housing said: 

“Cobalt are delighted to be working together with local people on these awards. The way to success is to involve the people who matter, which in this case is the residents of Croxteth. The added value is working with our partners in health, the Police and local authority – together we can make a difference”.

The funding pot has been contributed to by Cobalt Housing, NHS Merseycare Foundation Trust and Merseyside Police’s Community Cashback Fund which helps fund community projects across Merseyside using cash seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Each applicant will pitch their bid in a two-minute presentation to the local community group who will allocate funds for the projects they believe will have the biggest impact in their community .

The criteria for the applications are that the funds will help the group or club with an aspect of the following:

• Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.
• Protecting vulnerable people from becoming victims of crime and anti-social behaviour.
• Supporting victims of crime or anti-social behaviour.

Applicants can call along to Croxteth Communiversity, Altcross Road between 2-4pm on Thursday, 9 December 2021.
