Deep Cuts celebrates its third birthday with a host of new music at Phase One this Friday

One hundred and eight five live performances, a couple of venues, a handful of away days and one guitar doused in lighter fluid and set ablaze – yep, Getintothis are celebrating their third Deep Cuts birthday.

It’s been a wild ride of new music discovery since Ali Horn kicked off the Deep Cuts gigs back in February 2017.

And Getintothis are delighted to bring their third birthday celebrations back to Phase One in the heart of Liverpool city centre with another belter of a live bill on Friday January 17.

In keeping with their ethos, it’ll be brand new music plus a flavour of some of their favourite new sounds from across the rest of the UK.

The third birthday festivities features a five band bill – including a guitar orchestra, cinematic industrial techno and good ol’ fashioned rock and roll.

Kicking off the night, Getintothis have reserved something truly special – The Florrie Guitar Orchestra.

Born out of a community workshop, and led by The Tea Street Band‘s Timo Tierney, the Guitar Orchestra has seen a diverse collection of people learn the instrument and swell to a regular group who play together as one and have subsequently played at Sound City and garner interest from across the North West.

In keeping with all things The Florrie – it’s a communal, supportive and inclusive project which can’t help but feel inspiring and heart-warming in equal measure.

Hailing from the industrial warehouses of Digbeth in Birmingham, MATTERS meld dense electronics, slabs of rhythmic krautrock and cinematic drone to stunning effect.

Not least showcased on their latest track Hannah recently released (listen below) via the always reliable Static Caravan label, the trio have a new 12″ in the works for 2020 and have earned high praise from the likes of 6 Music.

Joining them are three of Merseyside’s brightest young prospects.

Readers of Getintothis will be well acquainted with Aimee Steven.

A precocious talent, Aimee manages to blend an assured classic rock sound with a more gentle and beguiling persona which can’t help lure you into her world.

Aimee Steven

Part Courtney Barnett, part Pavement, part Patti Smith – yet all very much herself, with sets at Kendal CallingSound CityDeeper Cuts and LIMF under her belt all within the first six months of her short career she’s been tipped by BBC Introducing and with a EP’s worth of cracking tracks under her belt, the next 12 months is hers to be had.

The Roswell Project and STONE are two brand new bands – however they’re very much already encrusted in the blossoming underground of Merseyside guitar bands.

STONE is the new project by the Finley Power led outfit, previously named The Bohos. And while they’re the same collective of musicians – their sound is a world away from their early material.

Reborn with a new sense of purpose, this is white-knuckle, brutal post-punk fiercely underpinned by Power‘s urgent vocal verbosity.

Having supported Black Grape and more recently Cast for their run of Christmas gigs at the O2 Academy, this will be many new music fans’ first glimpse of STONE.

The Roswell Project, meanwhile, is the new outfit by the lads previously known as The Gear.

Having played Deep Cuts‘ first gig at Phase One back in August 2018, the band made impressive showings throughout the UK with a headline tour following up with festival success and signing off with a storming set at Deeper Cuts in July.

As always there’s drinks offers, DJs and guaranteed swell times.

Deep Cuts third birthday is on Friday January 17 at 7pm, featuring The Florrie Guitar OrchestraSTONEAimee StevenMatters and The Roswell Project – tickets are £5 and are on sale now. £8 OTD.
