Disco Legend Greg Wilson Celebrates 50 Years with Free Easter Party in Liverpool

Marking 50 years, the famed DJ and producer will be playing in Liverpool with a free party at Liverpool’s pop and disco wonderland.

Starting out as a DJ of the original disco era, Greg Wilson had his first paid booking in September 1975, going on to secure a residency the following December, taking over the Saturday nights at the Chelsea Reach in New Brighton.

With half a century in the industry under his belt, the tastemaker is still one of the most revered DJs on the scene.

This Easter Sunday, he’ll be performing at Gloria’s in Liverpool to give the long weekend a special flair, with Greg providing his array of genre- spanning sounds, including disco, house, funk and soul as part of his trademark electrifying sets.

This event, with free entry until midnight, will see the city’s party people arriving before midnight for an evening of great tunes and party vibes.

As a UK pioneer and legend in the music scene, Greg was the first DJ to demonstrate mixing live on British TV, appearing on Channel 4’s ‘The Tube’ in 1983. In the same year, he’d show a young Quentin Cook (later Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim) how to cut and scratch. He received the then prestigious Blues & Soul award for Best DJ in the North, while his club nights at Wigan Pier and Legend came in first and second.

A true career highlight, his 2009 Radio 1 Essential Mix was ranked in the show’s top 10 and earned a spot on Rolling Stone’s ‘25 greatest internet DJ mixes of all time’ list.

DJ’s all over the world have played many of Greg’s iconic edits and reworks over the years, which include: Gabriels, Confidence Man, Grace Jones, Gilberto Gil, The XX, Groove Armada, Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music and Happy Mondays.

The event on Sunday, 5th April, is sure to be an extra special Easter Sunday celebration with Greg and Clara B in support.
