Ditch the New Year’s Resolutions, here’s 12 goals for a happy, healthy 2017 that are totally do-able!

We’re all gearing up to start the New Year with the best intentions; starting the gym, cutting down on the booze or to stop biting our nails (eewww), but in reality, how many of us make it past Valentine’s Day before we’re popping a cork and only using our gym membership card as a windscreen scraper?
We’re the first to admit, we’re totally rubbish at sticking to New Year’s resolutions, but we’ve done a bit of research and come up with a list of goals that are totally do-able. How many you can achieve in 2017?
1 – Finish a Chapstick
After extensive research, we are yet to find a person who has actually achieved this tough challenge. Just imagine being able to say “I finished a Nivea lip balm” it’s the ultimate bragging right. Stock up on yours at Home & Bargain and prepare your fabulous lips for Valentine’s Day!
2 – Me, me, me!
Ensuring we all get an hour of pure indulgent me-time, each week can make a huge difference to our overall happiness. We’re all working long hours, the kids are causing mayhem, we’re pulling more late night study sessions etc, so why not check out White Wolf Yoga, Crosby Beach, FACT or even a little spa treat at Lifestyle Collective for a little bit of peace and tranquillity?

3 – Once Upon A Time
Might seem silly, but something as simple as reading is found to reduce stress, improve your memory, focus and concentration! Get yourself down to Allerton Library on the first Monday of the month, between 2-3 and join the Reading Group to talk about all things fiction. Who needs Richard and Judy!?
4 – Get a space for your keys
Save yourself literally days worth of time over the course of the year looking for your goddamn keys! Have a bowl or a hook specially designated for them. You can even get super cute ones from Mi Vida and Rex on Bold Street. Easy little life hack and a great habit to get into!
5 – Make Your Bed
Making your bed every morning may seem like a waste of time seeing as you’re only going to get back in it later that day. BUT there is a tonne of research out there that says making your bed each morning (and keeping your personal space tidy in general) can lead to much happier life and it’ll make your mum/partner/dog happy too. 6 – Give A Little
In Liverpool alone there more than 150 charities that you can support in 2017 in many different ways. It could be something as simple as donating old clothes to charity shops, taking part in a splash dash or colour run or donating at your local food bank. Check out all the action from our Charity Takeover Week here and get involved.
7 – Best Foot Forward
Make walking part of your everyday life and reap a shed load of benefits. Improved health, save on bus/train fare and probably the most important point, stop annoying the life out of people who genuinely need to use lifts! Lace up and get going! More info on the city greenspaces and parks is available here.
8 – Grow a plant
Growing plants is said to help relieve stress and well they look pretty too! A short wander around the Japanese Gardens at Calderstones will give you endless inspiration. We believe that if you can grow a plant in 2017, you are indeed the most adulty adult there has ever been. We’re getting an office cactus!
9 – Taste The Rainbow
If you’ve not already been, get yourself to Bold Street and experience a different world cuisine every night of the week. Mowgli, Maray, Italian Club Fish, Bakchich, Miyagi and (to name a few) serve up delicacies from around the globe, 7 nights a week. Try the phenomenal Chat Bombs at Mowgli and forget everything you ever knew about Indian food!
10 – Adventure Time
Never stop exploring our city and it’s constantly changing face. With huge plans afoot for developing more of the Docklands, the atmosphere around Anfield on match days, Berry Street during Chinese New Year, Sefton Park when LIMF illuminates the whole of L17, there’s so much to see and do. Climb to impressive heights at The Anglican Cathedral, Hope Street Hotel, Panoramic 34 and of course St Johns Beacon offer unrivalled views over the roof tops that you’ll never get bored of.
11 – Puppy Love
Didn’t get a puppy for Christmas? Fear not, Freshfield Animal Rescue Centre are always on the look out for volunteers who would like to help walk the dogs currently waiting for the forever homes. Great practise before becoming a dog owner yourself and free doggie cuddles, win!
12 – Shop Local
