Dr Who? Why a Scouser should be at the helm of the Tardis
7 years ago
As we say goodbye to Capaldi (he grew on us eventually) the BBC announces that the next Dr Who will be Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker and social media has gone into complete meltdown.
We think it’s pretty awesome that a woman is at the helm, but the issue here is that she’s clearly not a scouser! It’s not a pairing that you’d maybe thought about, however Dr Who and it’s legions of fans can thank Liverpool for Tom Baker, Elizabeth Sladen, Paul McGann, David Morrissey and Peter Serafinowicz. All of whom have starred in the show either as the Doctor, or as a faithful companion and even a monster or two.
It’s safe to say some Whovians are struggling with the regenerational blues as the new star was announced, so in an attempt to perk you up, we’ve come up with this list of better candidates.
Here’s 5 Scousers that would be amazing Doctors…..
1 – Paul Barber
You cannot get more British than Denzil from Only Fools and Horses, and we reckon after more than 30 years in business, Paul Barber deserves a crack at it. The lad from Toxteth could give the Doctor a rough northern charm that we haven’t seen since Christopher Eccleston stepped into the role.
2 – Liza Tarbuck
There’s tonnes of debate going on around whether the Doctor should be female or not and we’re firmly in the ‘Why The Hell Not?’ camp! Whatever your opinion there’s no denying that Liza Tarbucks endless energy, no nonsense attitude and witty charm would make her an excellent candidate. She’d make the darlek’s quake on their castors!
3 – David Morrissey
David has already graced our screen as the new Doctor once before in the 2008 Christmas special alongside David Tennant (swoon) however it wouldn’t be the first time the Doctor has ‘borrowed’ a face from his past (here’s looking at you Capaldi/Lucius) if David were to make a return. What do you think?
4 – Jason Isaacs
Better known as Lucius Malfoy, the death eater dad in Harry Potter, Jason Isaacs could bring out a seriously dark side to the Doctor, far more serious and thrilling, which could lead to some really interesting relationships with companions again like the brilliant Doctor and Donna phase. Awww!
5 – Pete Price
The unabashed lizard king of Liverpool, Pete Price would be hilarious as the next Doctor. Travelling through time getting a proper cob on with all the messing around….who wouldn’t want to see that? Alright maybe just a one off Christmas special or something then?
