Dreamgirls is coming to Liverpool Empire: 5 reasons why you should book

Dreamgirls opens at Liverpool Empire from Tuesday 14 December and runs until Saturday 1 January 2022

We all love a good musical, and they don’t come much better than Dreamgirls which is getting ready dazzle audiences at the Liverpool Empire over Christmas.

Set in the ‘60s, it tells the story of three Chicago women – The Dreams – who set out to make their mark on the music world, and their rollercoaster journey through the world of fame, fortune … and the realities of showbiz.

Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson brought the film version to life – but there’s an amazing stage production too, and here’s five reasons why you need to book tickets to see it…

Mindblowing music

There’s not just one iconic song from Dreamgirls but several that are guaranteed to have you jumping out of your seats to applaud or reaching for the tissues as the tears stream down your face. The music moves from toe-tapping, claptastic stuff that’ll have you dancing in the aisles to undeniably moving songs as the Dreams climb the ladder to success.  ‘And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going’, ‘I am Changing’, ‘Listen’ and ‘One Night Only’ are the iconic numbers but they’re not the only ones that’ll impress.

Alternative to panto

There are some cracking pantos in the city this year but if pantos aren’t your thing, or you want see a few shows for a theatrical festive feast this year – and why wouldn’t you when it’s so good to be back in front of a live performance? – Dreamgirls makes a fabulous change from the slapstick and silliness of panto. A trip to the theatre is the icing on any (Christmas) cake over the Yuletide period and Dreamgirls is on at the Empire from December 14 to January 1.

Glitz and glamour

Dreamgirls has got more sparkle and sequins that the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree, from the flamboyant and fantastic costumes to the stunning sets. It’s a crystal encrusted production – even the heels of the actresses’ shoes are adorned in beautiful jewels! So as well as the tissues, it might be worth stashing a pair of sunnies in your bag! If you want a spectacular – this is it.

It’s empowering and uplifting

The moral of the story is never to be afraid to dream and believe in yourself, and as we head into the New Year, that’s not a bad mantra to repeat to yourself for a great 2022. Girl power is prime in Dreamgirls, and it’s a show that’s filled with energy, passion and love that make it massively uplifting so you leave the theatre with a song in your step and hope in your heart. And what a great Christmas pressie to give yourself!

You’ve had an invitation from The Dreams to help make history with the show’s first-ever UK tour!

It’s your chance to watch the show, which was previously only on on the London stage, in Liverpool and be part of history as it sets out on its first ever UK tour, starring Nicole Dennis – a finalist in The Voice 2019 – as Effie White. And The Dreams issued have an invitation via The Guide to encourage everyone to go and see it: “It’s full of glam, it’s full of excitement, heart, sisterhood, love, joy…just come and watch it.” So now how can you refuse?!
