easyJet expands Liverpool John Lennon Airport operations with new aircraft and summer routes

easyJet, is marking a major milestone today with the arrival of its eighth aircraft at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, supporting over 400 direct and indirect jobs across the region.

The addition of the Airbus A320neo will enable the airline to expand its operations from the city, offering even more value and choice for customers across the North West.

Over the past year, easyJet has continued to grow its presence at the airport, launching eight new routes including Malta, Fuerteventura, Prague, Berlin, Marrakesh, City of Derry, Sharm el Sheikh, and Split — with flights to the latter departing for the first time on 9 June. To celebrate the expansion and the upcoming summer routes, Liverpool John Lennon Airport is hosting a city-centre treasure hunt today. The event will take participants on a journey through key landmarks, with chances to win free flights and other prizes for those who successfully complete the challenges.

The expansion reflects easyJet’s role as the UK’s largest leisure airline and its commitment to making travel accessible. This summer, a third of passengers flying internationally from Liverpool with easyJet will be heading off on easyJet holidays, with popular destinations including Amsterdam, Antalya, Dalaman, Mallorca, Sharm el Sheikh and now Split. easyJet holidays offers thousands of packages across Europe and North Africa, with options bookable through to October 2026. Packages include flights, hotel, 23kg of luggage, and transfers on beach holidays, all backed by the company’s Ultimate Flexibility guarantee, which includes booking changes, refund protection, and a best price promise.

easyJet is operating its biggest-ever summer schedule in the UK this year, with seven additional Airbus A320 family aircraft joining the fleet. This summer will see more than 33 million seats on sale to and from the UK — half a million more than last year — across 44 new routes and three entirely new destinations.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager said:

“We are really pleased to be celebrating the arrival of an eighth aircraft at our Liverpool base, as well as the launch of our new summer route to Split.

Not only does our fleet growth in Liverpool support many skilled jobs and connectivity which play a crucial role in economic growth, it is a clear demonstration of our continued commitment to serving customers from the North-West.

Through our unrivalled short-haul network and unique easyJet holidays offering from Liverpool, we continue to provide more choice and value for money, always aiming to make travel easy for the 2 million customers we fly to and from Liverpool every year.”

Paul Winfield, Director of Aviation Development at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, said:

“easyJet’s decision to introduce an eighth Airbus A320neo to their Liverpool base is fantastic news for both the airport and the region. This will not only provide more choice and flexibility for our passengers but also demonstrates easyJet’s confidence in the airport’s ongoing development and commitment to the North West. We look forward to welcoming more passengers from across the Northwest to experience the Faster Easier Friendlier Airport experience.”

easyJet first launched services from Liverpool in October 1997 with routes to Nice, Amsterdam and Geneva. Today, the airline operates up to 328 flights each week from the airport, serving 31 routes to 15 countries across Europe and North Africa. Since its debut, easyJet has flown more than 53 million customers from Liverpool and now employs nearly 400 people at the base, including pilots, cabin crew and engineers.
