EDITOR’S PICKS: 10 things you can do this weekend in Liverpool

As if we are six months into the year already, it feels like two minutes ago we were at the launch of the new Home Alone Bar and turning on the Liverpool ONE Christmas Lights!

But don’t be stressing that you’ll be seeing Santa again anytime soon, we have got so much to come over the next few months with LIMF just around the corner and things like Feis Liverpool and Creamfields to look forward to as well.

On to things a little bit closer to the moment though, this weekend is packed full of action across our city and I’ve got a few suggestions on how you can make the most of it below.

For Live Music…

Liverpool Calling

It’s been a little while since Liverpool Calling has graced our city’s festival circuit and it is good to have it back, it was nominated for best Metropolitan Festival in 2015 after all. This year it takes up residence at various venues in the City Centre on Friday and then moves across to the Baltic Triangle on Saturday with headliners Pulled Apart By Horses, rock band, The Wytches and folk singer Will Varley.

You can book your tickets for Liverpool Calling here.

For A Day Out with Pimms….

Liverpool International Tennis, Aigburth Cricket Club

We are so lucky to have this event in Liverpool year on year, the Williams BMW Liverpool International Tennis Tournament takes of Liverpool Cricket Club all weekend long and tickets start at just £15. The weather’s looking spot on to enjoy the great atmosphere, chilled pimms and international tennis action on the court.

For an afternoon tea with soul…..

Gospel Afternoon Tea, Hilton Hotel Liverpool

Now we’ve all tucked into an afternoon tea before, but this one comes with added soul! The perfect way to treat your mum, or get your mates together for a sing along in the stylish surrounds of the Hilton Hotel. It’s just £20 a ticket for afternoon tea, a glass of fizz on arrival and that amazing soundtrack! More info here.

For a Sunday Fun day……

Bombed Out Church Market, Berry Street

I love this venue, it’s been the site of so many events in recent months and now every last Sunday of the month, the Bombed Out Church we all know and love is hosting Bombed Out Market, the perfect place to have a mooch about and sample some seriously delicious food. Expect bars, workshops, food, artisan market and more. Details here.

For a Disco with a difference…..

Silent Adventures

This looks like an absolute riot! Silent Adventures is a like the most amazing conga line you can imagine and where better to enjoy it than in the music capital of the UK? Grab your headphones and prepare to throw some serious shapes as you dance to your own beat around the city streets. Deffo one for The Guide Liverpool team! Book on here.

For an 80’s throwback party…..

Tainted Love, Camp & Furnace

The Ultimate 80’s party is back at Camp & Furnace on Saturday and if you haven’t blared ‘club tropicana drinks are freeeeee’ to your mate at a Baltic all-dayer…..you haven’t lived! This is one for all the 80’s kids who thought their parents’ taste in music was awful, but it turns out they’re the best floor fillers around! What’s your fave 80’s track? Get your Tainted Love tickets here.

For Breakfast…..

Our Kitchen, Bold Street

We’re all still working on our summer bodies here at The Guide Liverpool HQ for trying o eat healthily (at least for brekkie) is our aim, even at the weekend, so we’re loving the loaded breakfast bowls from Our Kitchen, Bold Street. With a choice of yoghurt, oats, nuts, seeds and fruit, you can have a different mix every day! Check out our healthy dishes run down here.

For Daytime/Night time dining ……

Salt House Tapas, Paradise Street

There’s a brand new menu bringing a taste of Spain to the city at Salt House Tapas. Prepare to drool because this new menu sounds amazing! Now on offer is sizzling garlic prawns, hake pil pil with celeriac puree, caramelised cauliflower and baby leek, Stornoway black pudding with Serrano jam, shallot cream, and quail egg, and the paprika roasted chicken wings, with honey and chimmichurri sauce. Book your table in the sun here.

For a proper laugh….

Paul Smith, ‘Hiya Mate’ Echo Arena Auditorium

You can’t deny the Scouse sense of humour is unbeatable, and Liverpool’s own Paul Smith takes his ‘Hiya Mate’ show on tour to the Echo Arena Auditorium this weekend. If you haven’t seen the video clips from his Hot Water Comedy performances, check them out on YouTube and prepare to be in stitches as he rips into the audience like he’s known them all this life. Tickets available here.

For drinks in the sun…..

Crazy Pedro’s Suntrap Terrace, Parr Street

Summer days are made for bevs in the sun and the terrace at Crazy Pedro’ s is the perfect suntrap to grab a slice of pizza and a few cold ones to continue your party from day to night. If you haven’t been before, the pizza toppings are absolutely mad and tasty in equal measure. Get yourself down there and order the Doner Summer! Menus and more here.
