EDITORS’ PICKS: 9 things you need to experience this weekend in Liverpool

The weekend has arrived Liverpool and it’s looking like a good one. We’ve gotĀ international DJs, incredible theatre masterpieces, more ice than you can imagine and some seriously crazy pizza toppings.

Jay here with a few ideas on what you can get up to over the next few days in the greatest city on the planet.

To party…

Crazy Pedros, Parr Street

Crazy Pedros has landed in Liverpool, and if his pizzas are anything to go by then he really is CRAZY. Based on Parr Street, this is the third in the chain and pizza choices include everything from Pedros World Famous Hot Dog Pizza to the Fried Chicken and Waffle (with maple syrup) and the utterly crazy Blueberry Hill (feta, red onion and yup, blueberry). Trust me they might be unusual, but all are delicious. Atmosphere is incredible too with the best funk, disco and indie anthems blaring through the venue, laid back feel, frozen margarita and a range of ice cold beers. Seriously get it in your weekend plans.

Head to the website for more info and full Crazy Pedro’s menu.

To experience…

Liverpool Ice Festival

Ice skating in the heart of Liverpool with the promise of an icy drink and a go on the 30ft ice slide afterwards? Yes please! The Liverpool Ice Festival is back on the Pier Head, bigger and icier than ever. It opens this weekend and will provide the perfect day or night out right up until 7th January.

Lots more info on this years Liverpool Ice Festival here.

To eat…

Stanleys, Titanic Hotel Liverpool

Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend the very glitzy Woodlands Winter Ball at Titanic Hotel Liverpool. Every time I go I’m in awe of just how stunning the building is, and on what an amazing restoration job they’ve done on one of Liverpool’s most historic dockside warehouses. Stanley’s Bar & Grill serves up some seriously tasty grub andĀ Executive Chef Bradley Lean has created a menu showcasing the very best autumn/winter ingredients, guaranteed to warm up even the coldest day. Mains includeĀ duck breast with smoked leg fritter and beetroot; and roast loin of cod with a rich red pepper and tomato ragu, ricotta gnocchi and sweet basil, together with great steaks includingĀ theĀ 28-day dry-aged British cuts.

To listen…

AMP Radio

Been missing your dance tunes? Let’s be honest since the demise of our beloved Juice FM there has been a mighty gap in our tune filled weekends. Well the big news is that weekends are back, courtesy of new radio station, AMP Radio. All your Liverpool favourite DJ’s including Dave Whelan, Ian Longo, Les Calvert, Lil John, Denny Dowd and lots more are available at the touch of a button. Turn it up Liverpool!

To see…

War Horse, Liverpool Empire

I got to meet Joey the horse at Liverpool Empire this week. War Horse runs until 2nd December and reviews from opening night are amazing. Nicky who’s one of Joey’s puppeteers (you’ll see her in the video above) said she sheds a tear from time time on stage because it is that sad, if the horse itself cries, then I’ve got no chance. Seriously though, we are super lucky to have this masterpiece in our city, get booking before it’s too late. Book your tickets here.

To indulge…

Heavenly Desserts, Liverpool ONE

When you get asked to go and ‘sample’ a new restaurant you normally expect a little nibble and maybe to leave with a business card or two. Oh no, not at the brand new Heavenly DessertsĀ in Liverpool ONE. Four courses of actual heaven later and I was rolled out like Augustus Gloop. Waffles, crepes, artisan puds, ice cream & best of all the chocolate shots, you can even create your own desserts too. Choose your base and three toppings and your good to roll home just like me. Heavenly Desserts open now just opposite the Hilton in Liverpool ONE on the strand.

To rave…

Creamfields Steelyard

You might have driven past the docks, just by Titanic Hotel and wondered what the Hell was going on. One humongous dock side party is what is going on,Ā as Creamfields Steelyard returns to Liverpool bringing with it some of the biggest DJ’s on the planet and of course the enormous steelyard superstructure. This weekend will see trance lovers from far and wide descend on the docks for dance titan, Armin Van Buuren and Creamfields ‘State Of Trance’ party.

Some tickets still available here.Ā

Out of the city…

Manchester Arena

I actually ventured out of Liverpool on Monday. Not many things can make me go the other way down the 62, but if anyone can The Killers can. They played Manchester ArenaĀ and were superb. Brandon Flowers is the perfect front-man and great seeing the latest album ‘Wonderful Wonderful’ come to life. I won’t lie it felt very very strange going back to Manchester Arena and I have to say the staff and security personnel were incredible. Thoughts are obviously drawn back to what happened in May and I’m sure for anyone going to a gig in the future the same will apply. But so great that one of the countries best loved music venues is back open and providing the backdrop once more for some of the biggest musicians on the planet.

Royal Blood, Phil Collins, Kasabian, Mariah Carey & more all coming to Manchester Arena – Ticket info here.

To taste Ibiza…

La Finca Eivissa

Come on we all love a bit of the Balearics in Liverpool! Well you can now feel like you are on the White Isle 7 days a week, 12 months of the year right here in our city as La Finca Eivissa has launched on Back Colquitt Street (off Seal Street). Real laid back Ibizan vibes, with amazing tapas and sharing boards, Spanish beers and cocktails and full on chill out beds complete with a rolling Ibiza sunset projection.

More info and website details here.

Keep up to date on what else we get up to this weekend on Twitter & Facebook, I’m sure there’ll be more antics to shout about next week. Whatever you are up to yourself, have a good one and enjoy our boss city in all it’s wintry glory.
