Three weeks in (is that really all?) and we’ve already got a bit of January fatigue, but nothing makes it go quicker than getting out and doing stuff and there’s plenty happening in the city right now.
To give you a few ideas, here are 15 things to do in Liverpool this week …
Try Franco Manca, new on Bold Street
When it comes to going out to eat, Bold Street is always a good bet and along with old favourites, there are great newbies including Franco Manca in the gorgeous old Rennies art gallery building. Their sourdough Neapolitan pizzas are delicious and there’s a big open kitchen to watch the chefs in action.

Bat out of Hell at Liverpool Empire
If you love Meat Loaf and all those fabulous Bat Out of Hell hits like Paradise by the Dashboard Light and Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad then this is definitely the powerhouse musical for you. Expect some stunning rock anthem performances, an eight-piece live band, iconic songs and a love story too.

Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live at M&S Bank Arena
The sight of massive Hot Wheels Monster Trucks roaring around is absolutely spectacular so this show is high-energy fun for the whole family. Here on Saturday and Sunday, it features fan favourite trucks, a transforming robot, plus amazing skills from Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live Freestyle Motocross Team.

Kingsley & Co for the kids in Bootle Strand
If you want to fire up your kids’ imaginations and get them reading more, take them to Kingsley & Co bookshop for one of their free Saturday daytime storytelling sessions. This Saturday, between 11am and 3pm, local author Dave McCluskey will be doing a meet and greet, storytelling and signing.

Celebrate Burns Night at The Reader
You don’t have to be Scottish to celebrate Burns Night, get into the spirit in the name of Scotland’s most famous poet, Robert Burns, at The Reader in Calderstones Park where there’s a Burns Night Dinner on Friday – complete with whisky pairing for each course – and traditional Burns Night Ceilidh on Saturday.

If you’ve not found your way to Holy Garage on Mount Pleasant yet now’s the time to do it. Inside the historic old YMCA building, the venue alone with arcade games and tables is super-cool but the Detroit-style pizza makes it even better, plus it’s currently one and one free so you can’t go wrong.

Lost in Music at the Floral Pavilion
If your January could use some massive glitterball floor-fillers, Floral Pavilion in New Brighton has everything you need in one feelgood musical. This Friday, Lost in Music will take you back to the 70s disco heyday with huge hits from the likes of Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Sister Sledge and Chic.

Lee Butler’s Bottomless Brunch at The Dome
Not had the first bottomless brunch of 2025? Where have you been? This would make the perfect one to get things going – Lee Butler’s Bottomless Beats Brunch Club comes to The Dome on Renshaw Street this Saturday, 3pm-8pm, with two hours bottomless drinks, food and five hours of top music.

Huey Morgan NYC Block Party at Future Yard
Talking of incredible tunes, former Fun Lovin Criminals frontman Huey Morgan is a master when it comes to picking and playing them. He returns to Future Yard in Birkenhead this Saturday with a DJ set mix of disco, soul, hip hop and funk for his NYC Block Party with support from The Oliphant Man.

Pass the Parcel at the Royal Court Studio
The Royal Court Studio gets its 2025 season off to a great start from Thursday with Pass The Parcel, the warm-hearted and funny story of a family sifting through memories and sharing stories after the death of their mum. Written by Sarah Whitehead, it stars Eithne Brown and runs until February 8.

Breakfast at Anji’s in Waterloo
If you’re in the north end of the city and fancy treating yourself to a tasty brekkie, you need to give Anji’s on Crosby Road North a try. It gets brilliant reviews, loaded hash browns and French toast are a big favourite and the new pistachio and raspberry French toast is a must-have if you can get one.

Indie cinema at Bijou in Southport
We love a huge screen but there’s nothing quite like a little indie cinema and Bijou’s got more awards than Meryl Streep. It’s comfy, you get a decent view wherever you are and there’s an amazing line-up of classics, indie films and world cinema. This Thursday it’s the 1979 Nosferatu The Vampyre.

It’s 100% Sunday Roast season so if you want one with something special El Gato Negro has it – not only do you get a choice of roast chicken, sirloin of beef or suckling pig (or a sharing board of all three if you can’t decide), plus a fish and veggie option, you’ll get Guinness gravy and bottomless sticky toffee pud!

Be wowed by Cosmotechnics at FACT
This free-to-see exhibition at FACT is only on until Sunday so if you’ve not been yet, you’ll have to be quick. It looks at the links between culture, nature and technology, with four Latin American artists and collectives using sculpture, video, and sound to create thought-provoking immersive installations.
