With our rich musical and cultural heritage, and our commitment to fighting social injustice, it just had to be Liverpool to host Eurovision on behalf of Ukraine.
The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the world’s biggest music events, it brings together talented artists from all over Europe and beyond. In recent years, the competition has been hosted in cities such as Stockholm, Lisbon, and Tel Aviv. But this year, it’s ours!
Holding the contest on behalf of Ukraine due to the horrendous conflict in their country – Liverpool is the perfect choice to host the event and here’s some reasons why:
Musical History
Our city has a rich musical history!
It’s the birthplace of The Beatles… you know… one of the most famous and influential bands in the world! We’ve produced countless other talented musicians over the years, like Atomic Kitten, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and Jamie Webster!
Being able to host Eurovision in Liverpool has been a great opportunity to showcase this musical heritage and to celebrate the city’s vibrant music scene, you only need to take a look at The National Lottery’s Big Eurovision Welcome to see that.
The Arena
We have a world-class arena that’s perfect for hosting large-scale events like Eurovision.
The M&S Bank Arena can accommodate up to 11,000 people and has already hosted big-name acts like Ariana Grande and Elton John. The venue is conveniently located near The Albert Dock, in the city centre, and has excellent transport links, making it easy for fans to get to and from the event.
The People
Let’s face it… Scousers are the best!
We’re known for our warm and friendly hospitality. Scousers are famous for their welcoming nature, and we always make visitors to the city feel at home.
The Song Contest has once again put us on the World Map, and given us the opportunity to showcase this friendly spirit to Eurovision fans from all over!
Food & Drink
We have an amazing food and drink scene. The city boasts a diverse range of culinary options that cater to all tastes, from traditional British pub food to international cuisine from all over the world.
The city’s bustling food markets, such as the popular The GPO, Baltic Market, and Duke Street Market, offer a variety of street food options and local produce.
Our bar and pub scene is thriving, with numerous cocktail bars, craft beer pubs, and traditional pubs serving local ales.
The city is also home to a number of award-winning restaurants, with chefs using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create innovative dishes that reflect the city’s vibrant food culture.
Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a fine dining experience, our food and drink scene is sure to impress!
We know how to put on a show!
We’re pulling out all the stops to make Eurovision 2023 an unforgettable experience for fans and visitors.
The city has planned an exciting program of events, both inside and outside the arena, to celebrate the music and culture of Eurovision. There will be a range of concerts, parties, and cultural events taking place throughout the city, showcasing the best of Liverpool’s music and arts scene.
Fans can look forward to Eurovision-themed walking tours, pop-up street performances, and late-night parties in some of the city’s most iconic venues.
