Everton in the Community has today launched its ‘Together We Can Make Christmas’ campaign, calling on supporters across Liverpool City Region and beyond to stand with those who need it most this festive period.

As the holidays approach, thousands of local people will face challenges hidden behind closed doors. From older adults experiencing loneliness, to families unable to heat their homes to children who may wake up on Christmas Day without a single present. Mental health pressures also rise sharply at this time of year, with many people feeling increased isolation and strain.

Through its Christmas campaign, Everton in the Community will highlight these issues and show how community support can make a meaningful difference. The official charity of Everton Football Club is asking supporters to back its vital work by giving what they can to ensure no one is left behind this Christmas.

Backed by EitC Ambassador Rachel Brown-Finnis, the campaign will share real stories from participants whose lives have been transformed through Everton in the Community’s work in tackling homelessness, social isolation, financial hardship and more.

One of those individuals is Albie, a senior citizen whose life changed profoundly when his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and later moved into a care home. Left living alone, Albie became increasingly isolated — until his son introduced him to Everton in the Community. Joining the charity’s walking football team and later its ‘Stand Together’ sessions helped him rebuild confidence and rediscover companionship.

Albie says:

“I’d be lost without them,”

“If you’re stuck in the house, you’re going to fade faster. I needed to get on with my own life and Everton in the Community have helped with that massively.”

The campaign also shares the experience of Grace, aged 19, who received support through the charity’s ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’ programme, which provides residential and outreach support to young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. After going missing several times and disengaging from education, the stability and guidance she received from the charity helped her to rebuild her life.

Grace says:

“I honestly don’t know where I’d be,”

“I’d probably still be hanging around with the wrong crowd. Without them, you wouldn’t have me here now.”

Beth, also 19, turned to Everton in the Community while juggling part-time work and parenting alone. Through access to the Youth Zone and the charity’s food pantry, she has found practical support and a strong sense of community.

Beth says:

“You don’t just feel like a number,”

“They really look out for me and my family.”

These stories represent just a small glimpse of the thousands of people supported by Everton in the Community each year. And at Christmas — when financial pressure, loneliness and grief often intensify — demand for help rises sharply. Nationally, one in four adults report feeling lonely during the festive period, while more than half of older people say Christmas is the hardest time of year.

This is why the charity is urging supporters to come together. Even a small donation — as little as £5 — can help provide warmth, connection, food, friendship or crisis support to someone who needs it.
