Everything you need to know about the Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival
7 years ago
Who’s up for some frozen fun at the Pier Head this winter?
Back for another year of festive family fun, the Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival returns to the Pier Head from 17th November until 7th January 2018 and it’s even bigger and better than ever.
We had a ball trying out the Ice Slide, Skating rink, Ice Bar and Christmas Market last winter, and now there’s even more fabulous frozen fun to be had. New for this year, the UK’s only Ice Jet, a thrilling, two person bob-sleigh ride that reaches speeds of up to 80mph will feature as part of the festival, alongside an even bigger skating rink, a triple lane, super-sized ice slide (eeeek) and lovely traditional market stalls.
Here’s 7 unmissable highlights of the Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival 2017…..
1 – Ice Slide
The UK’s longest real Ice Slide at the Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival has three super-speedy 30m runs so ice riders can experience a heart-racing buzz as they skim along from 6m above the park. Watch above as our Jay faces his fears and takes a ride!
2 – Christmas Market
Why not take a wander around the traditional Christmas markets, offering up all sights and delicious smells of Christmas! With some lovely stalls this year and 3 outdoor German style bars there’s so much to experience at Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival.
3 – Ice Skating
The covered outdoor Ice Rink is back and its EVEN BIGGER! Situated on one of Liverpool’s best known historic locations, the Pier Head, you can skate away under a clear canopy to keep you dry and with the stunning Three Graces as a backdrop. There’s also penguins for the little ones to practise on their blades.
4 – Fairground Rides & Games
New this year, see the city from the skies and try out the Ferris Wheel, or have a go on the Victorian Helter Skelter, Santa’s Dumbo ride, Santa’s Train, Tea Cups and many more rides perfect for little ones. Or, if you’re looking for more breath-taking thrills, why not brave the UK’s Only Ice Jet Ride, the Ice Blast Booster, the Mega Mix or the Ski Jump? Hold on to your hats!
5 – Ice Bar & Apres Lodge
There’s not one, but two family friendly bars to relax in at the Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival this winter. Feel the freeze in the real Ice Bar, a unique ice experience featuring a glittering room of crystal clear ice sculptures where even the bar, tables and chairs are carved from real ice. Cocktails anyone?
Or come in from the cold, relax in the Après Lodge and you’ll find plenty of perfect wintry hot and cold drinks to choose from. Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival Après Lodge has big sofas to relax on, and a really family-friendly atmosphere.
6 – Food & Drink
Make sure you bring an appetite to Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival because there’s a winter feast awaiting you. Try the hot chocolate, coffees, teas and mulled wines or sample a hog roast roll, stone baked pizza or crepe smothered in delicious hot chocolate for a little bit of food heaven.
7 – Santa’s Grotto
Now as if all that fun wasn’t enough, you can treat your little ones to the ultimate Christmas experience. How about meeting Santa in his Grotto at the Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival? Open from 17th November until Christmas eve, your little one can have a chat with the big man and even receive a present, there’s no booking required, just turn up nice and early and watch the magic happen!
