Everything we know about Celebrating Bold Street this weekend
1 year ago
The event, on Sunday August 13, puts the spotlight on local businesses and is a family-friendly day packed with activities, food demos and samples, street entertainment, live music and DJs and loads of offers from the restaurants and bars.
One of Liverpool’s best loved streets will be taking on a carnival atmosphere this weekend as Celebrating Bold Street returns.
Organised by Liverpool BID Company, it follows last weekend’s successful Celebrating Castle Street and it will be the first time Bold Street’s had its own free party since 2019.
There’ll be plenty for kids to see and get involved with including a guest appearance by three fantastic giant puppets created by Baltic-based VIP Puppets. Dolly the Giraffe will be leading an animal parade down the street, joined by her two larger-than-life lion pals.
Lots of the venues will have their own over-sized characters too, so look out and grab a selfie with a big pineapple at Pizza Punks, Chaiiwala’s giant teacup, and a huge heart at the British Heart Foundation shop.
Free face painting and glitter art will be happening all day so children can get themselves decorated, and the VIP Puppets team is also running free sock puppet craft workshops for kids at Leaf – there’s going to be three between 11am and 5pm – alongside a craft market with stalls from local makers.
Music is going to be a major feature of Celebrating Bold Street. There’s a busker stage showcasing local talent all day, from 11am until 6pm, and Africa Oyé is doing a human jukebox workshop with all kinds of musical instruments.
Albert’s Schloss has got a marching band out and about and a gospel choir inside the bar, and COW vintage and Resurrection have both got DJs in store as well as special discounts for the day.
Music lovers should also head to the top of the street and over to the Bombed Out Church for a Record Fair from 10am to 4pm, with vinyl for sale in the gardens, plus DJs and live music within the church walls.
Tonight Josephine is going to be joining in the fun too with drag performers, spin the wheel and drinks samples.
