Housed in history
This incredible building was designed by Liverpool Corporation surveyor and grand architect John Weightman and built on behalf of the council to accommodate a growing number of authority staff.
Opening in 1866, the Grade II listed building, influenced by both Italian and French Renaissance styles, is well known for its pyramidal spire, along with pavilions at each corner topped by ornamental ironwork.
Along the attic storey are 18 sandstone figures representing the arts, sciences and industries of Liverpool and, in the centre of the building, above the main Dale Street entrance, is a 210 ft iconic clock and bell tower.
It remained as offices for the council until 2017.
Reimagined as a hotel
The former municipal building has been lovingly and lavishly renovated and recreated to join the prestigious Accor groupâs prestigious boutique brand.
It began its new life in May 2023, with beautiful bars, restaurants and 179 rooms, and fabulous features that have helped it stand out â and stand ahead.
