Everything you need to know about World Museum and their ‘roarsome’ Dino Takeover this summer

Summer is set to be a roarsome one for National Museums Liverpool as dinosaurs take over World Museum for a packed programme of events.
There’s a whole host of dino-sized fun family activities happening at World Museum, including life-like dinosaur puppets, thrilling dino stories, expert curator workshops, dino crafting, dino-themed discovery museum trails and a dino selfie prize opportunity!
It’s going to be Tricera-TOPS, so here’s everything you need to know…
What is the Dino Takeover?
A special interactive experience where you and your mini explorers can get up close to dinosaurs and learn more about them. Whether that be digging for fossils in the interactive Dino Dig pit, or learning first hand from our expert curator workshops, there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained this summer!
Where is the Dino Takeover?
The Dino Takeover is happening at World Museum in William Brown Street, Liverpool.
When is it?
The Dino Takeover is running from now until Thursday, August 28 – right the way through the school summer holidays
Is it on every day?
No. Because there are so many other great things happening at National Museums Liverpool, the dinosaurs will be taking over World Museum every Wednesday and Thursday with a host of different events aimed at all ages of the family.
So what’s on when and where?
* Roarapalooza! Meet the Dinosaurs is on at various locations throughout the museum at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 3pm and 4pm every Wednesday and Thursday until August 27. Thanks to super life-like puppets it’s a chance to come face-to-face with giant dinosaurs like Zuki the Stegosaurus and Salsa the Megalosaurus, enjoy fun shows, and say hello to sweet baby dinosaurs. It’s perfect for fab summer photos and it’s suitable for all ages so everyone in the family can enjoy it.
* Meet the Curators
Join NML’s experts to learn and chat about herbivorous dinosaurs and beasts, prehistoric insects, giant birds, and fossils at the Clore Natural History Centre on Wednesday, July 30, and Wednesdays August 6, 13, and 27. The sessions are drop-in from 1.30pm-3.30pm and, again, it’s suitable for all ages.
* Dino Dig
Time for a hands-on fossil hunting adventure: you can get digging for prehistoric fossils and making your own fossil cast to take home in the Floor 2 Bug House classroom every Wednesday and Thursday until August 28 at 10.30am-12.15pm, and 1.30pm-3.45pm. It’s ideal for ages five and over.
* Little Dinosaurs Story Time
Time for tall tales and prehistoric adventures in an interactive story time on Thursdays July 31`and August 7, 21, and 28 on Floor 4 beside the dinos. You can sit and listen to the terrific tales between 11.45am-12.15pm, 2.15pm-2.45pm, and 4pm-4.30pm on each of those days and it’s suitable for ages 2-5.
* Little Dinosaurs
There’s sensory play, puzzles, crafting and a whole lot of dinosaur-themed fun in the Floor 4 community base on Thursday, July 31, and on Thursdays, August 7, 21 and 28, between 10.30am-11.45am, 1pm-2.15pm, and 4pm-5pm. Suitable for ages 0-5.
*Digital Dino Discovery Trail
Take a prehistoric journey through time with Dino Dave, using your own device to follow a trail around the museum. Using Dino Discovery QR codes you can discover some of World Museum’s oldest objects and learn how many of the animals and insects we see today have prehistoric ancestors that lived alongside dinosaurs, or existed before them.
* Dino Treasure Hunt
Grab a treasure map and embark on your adventure around World Museum to see how many dinosaurs you can find.
