FAMILY: 10 things we LOVE about Farmer Teds…

The sun is out the sky is blue, we’ve been to the farm and here’s our review!

We picked an absolutely glorious day to check out Farmer Ted’s, on the outskirts of Ormskirk.

It’s an action packed, full day out for kids of all ages and here is our top ten best bits to make the most of your visit!

Spring has Sprung – There are signs of spring all over the farm but the cutest by far are the brand new lambs and chicks. New mum, Elsa the pig is keen to show off her 7 beautiful piglets born just 3 weeks ago. All together now….awwwwwww.

Fancy Fillies – If you like to get hands on why not have a go at pony grooming? The staff at the farm will show you how to use the right brushes and equipment to make their ponies look fabulous. Anyone got a spare bobble? It’s not just pony’s either you can get involved with helping out with your normal farmy favourite’s too.

See the Sights – The farm is set over a huge site and wandering around all day can be a bit tiring for little legs. How about letting someone else do the work? Hop on the big green tractor for a slow ride through the fields and pens to see all the animals or if you’re looking for a thrill the bumpy barrel ride is for you. Lots of little red faces full of giggles on this one, not to be missed.

Work Up a Sweat – We lost count of how many separate play areas there are on the farm but we did try to find every slide and lost count at 7! Can you find them all? Don’t forget to look inside too!

Screen Shot 16

Spread your Wings – Farmer Ted’s has an impressive Birds of Prey display and flying shows take place twice a day. The kids go nuts cheering and clapping as these intelligent birds put on a brilliant show!

Screen Shot 2

Fill Your Boots – You’re really spoiled for choice at Farmer Ted’s when it comes to lunch time. The farm is one of the few attractions that encourages families to bring a picnic and provides tonnes of picnic tables on the main outdoor play area. With a 5-star hygiene rating, there’s a big tasty menu to choose from and the kids portions are generous! The tuck shop sells smaller, reasonably priced treats such as ice creams and crisps to top up your picnic! Nom.

Santa’s Little Helpers – Do you know where Santa’s reindeer put their hooves up after the Christmas rush? Farmer Ted’s of course! Sparkle, Deirdre, Twinkle and Dazzle (the less well-known of Santa’s four legged friends) are currently taking a well-earned rest before the Christmas madness. This fab foursome are a friendly bunch and make for great threats to the kids to behave! Santa is watching!

From 4 legs to 8 – The Mini Beasts hut is absolutely packed full of all manner of exotic insects and reptiles. During our visit we were lucky enough to hold a bright blue tree frog, an orange striped snake and we even tickled a baby dragon called Mr Potato Head! The staff are great at encouraging even the smallest of kids to get hands on!

Rain Rain Go Away – If the weather is a bit grey…fear not, the Animal Barn and Mini Beast’s exhibits are all undercover, as are the two huge soft play areas so the rain never stops play! Plus a day on the farm has got to include at least a little bit of mud right?

Screen Shot 8

Back to Basics – there are swings, climbing frames, a toddler specific play area and plenty of green space to run about on. If you’re feeling brave have a go on the wizzy zip wire for a high speed thrill or burn off those ice-creams and sweets with a race on the peddle go karts. Eh Dad’s, give the kids a go will you!?

The Bottom Line – The things parents and carers want to know: Toilets are clean and well maintained, hand washing stations that are an accessible height for little ones are dotted in and around the animal barn, there’s ample parking and plenty of high chairs. Phew!
