Fix It: free repair workshops launching in Liverpool to help reduce waste
2 hours ago
What if broken items didn’t have to be waste?
From 21 February, Oneday is launching Fix It, a free repair workshop at Bowring Park and Huyton Village Green Café, where people can get their household items fixed instead of throwing them away.
The project will run 10 workshops between February and April, covering everything from electrical repairs and jewellery fixes to upcycling furniture and DIY solutions.
It’s all about saving money, reducing waste, and learning valuable skills.
With the cost of living rising and household expenses increasing, many people are still forced to replace broken items that could easily be repaired. The goal of Fix It is to help the community save money, reduce waste, and learn essential repair skills.
Fix It is part of Oneday’s mission to transform spaces in Merseyside into thriving, sustainable community hubs where people can connect, learn, and take meaningful action for a greener future.
What Can You Fix?
- Small Electricals: Toasters, microwaves, kettles, hair dryers, straighteners, blenders, speakers, radios, lamps, fans.
- Laptops: Diagnostic and recommendations rather than full repairs.
- Jewellery & Watches: Cleaning, appraisals, minor fixes, and battery replacements.
- Upcycling, Plant Doctor & DIY: Frames, mirrors, small furniture restoration and plants.
- Bicycle repairs: Punctures, chain repairs and aligning.
Fix It isn’t just about fixing objects, it’s about restoring community spaces, building skills, and changing mindsets.
This initiative is part of Oneday’s wider sustainability efforts, which include ‘grow’ an ambitious project that combines sustainability, innovation, and economic regeneration.
Oisin Hennessy, Fix It Project Lead, said:
“Fix It is about making repairs easy, accessible, and a normal part of life again. Lots of people, including myself, are guilty of throwing away broken electrical items that are often fixable, and I’m really excited to see the impact this service has on the community.
“Fix It is just one of many projects led by Oneday as part of ‘grow’, our wider mission to embed sustainability into everyday life. From repair workshops to large-scale green initiatives, we’re proving that sustainable living isn’t just for big businesses, it starts with everyday habits.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority and Friends of Bowring Park, as well as our partners who will be delivering workshops, including Asset Lifecycle Solutions, Huyton Village Jewellers and Crafty Monkeys, because without them this incredible initiative wouldn’t be possible.”
