The team knew The Florrie was in need of funding so rallied together to get some cash in for the Liverpool community hub and charity.
And the weeks of training paid off. With a cumulative distance of 812k, they smashed their £2,000k target and it keeps rising, now close to £5,000.
As well as many runners in Liverpool, some were as far afield as Australia and Stockholm, with the team using Strava to feel connected.
One of the Sefton Park Rangers team, Gaz Thomas, had a particularly odd run. He had to self-isolate due to coming in contact with someone with Covid, but his urge to not let the team down did not stop him.
Through the love of football and a passion for the community in Liverpool, SPR have decided to launch a new fundraising project to raise vital funds for The Florrie over lockdown. The Florrie has been functioning as a foodbank throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, providing much needed meals to those in need in Liverpool and can only continue to do so with the support of people in the city. It has also recently announced free counseling sessions for L8 residents in partnership with the Mind Map.
To help the effort to raise funds for The Florrie led Gaz to run a complete half marathon in the back alley of his house just off Aigburth Road, running up and down the confined space for over 2 hours to over 21k. What an effort.
The lads are hoping to break the £5k barrier by Friday when the fundraiser ends.
