PLAY, the low-cost Icelandic airline, has announced the relaunch of its popular regional route from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, offering flights from 11 October 2024 until 26 May 2025.
The airline will operate twice-weekly flights between Liverpool John Lennon Airport and KeflavĂk, Iceland, on Mondays and Fridays, with fares starting at just ÂŁ76 per person return.
In addition to direct flights to Iceland, PLAY offers convenient connections to North America, with onward travel options to New York, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, and Toronto starting from ÂŁ301 per person return.
Travellers can take advantage of the opportunity to extend their layover in Iceland from 2 hours up to 10 days at no extra cost, allowing for a stopover in Reykjavik as part of their journey.
Einar Örn Ólafsson, CEO of PLAY, said:
“Our seasonal Liverpool route has quickly become one of our most popular, highlighting the growing interest in Iceland as a top destination. This popularity not only demonstrates the demand for travel between the UK and Iceland, but additionally provides a seamless connection for travellers looking to continue their journey onward to North America, making Iceland a key gateway between Europe and the other side of the Atlantic.”
Additionally, despite recent volcanic activity on the country’s Reykjanes Peninsula this year, PLAY has had no cancellations or delays to its flight schedule.Â
Ólafsson added:
“Iceland is famously dubbed ‘the land of fire and ice’ which comes from its northern location and reputation for volcanic activity.Â
“Despite this, Iceland has some of the most advanced volcanic preparedness systems in the world to safeguard the public and remains a very safe destination for both locals and visitors. Indeed, in the last 400 days of volcanic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula, not a single PLAY flight has been cancelled as a result.”
In Q2 2024, PLAY flew over 442,000 passengers with a fleet of 10 aircrafts, serving more than 36 destinations worldwide.Â
The airline additionally reported a revenue of USD 78.3 million in its most recent financial report, with a strong cash position of USD 51.4 million at the end of the quarter, and load factor of 86%.
