Following the Blues: Cup wins cover up cracks

Our blues blogger Tim Lloyd is back looking back at Everton’s wins last week and looking ahead to Wednesday’s Manchester city game.

Cup wins cover up cracks

This week hasn’t been a bad one if you’re an Everton fan, with two wins in a matter of days starting with a fantastic win against Manchester City in the Capital One cup on Wednesday night at Goodison Park. This was followed up on Saturday with an expected home victory against the lowest ranked team left in the FA Cup in Dagenham & Redbridge.
One of the many highlights that came from the two games was the impressive display of the Bosnian Muhamed Bešić who really impressed with a mixture of good timing in the tackle as well as fantastic skill on the ball including a pirouette turn that left not just the man city players around speechless but most of Goodison. Bešić is already a fans favourite and with his man of the match performance against City it’s clear his reputation is growing even if he does look a big like a crime watch missing man, but that’s part of his charm and part of the reason the toffees have taken to him so easily.

The only debate that seems to be hotter then a ‘Goodison scouse pie’ at the moment is that of the goalkeeping position and with Joel Robles showing that he is a capable back up some may argue he is better than current number one T-How (yes seriously that’s Tim Howard’s nickname) is it time to give Joel a long run in the team the only answer is yes. With there being only a few realistic targets for Roberto Martinez he needs to put his faith in Joel.

The other problem is Arouna Konė honestly people seem to be not realise that he was only putting performances in when he wanted a new contract now he has his wish he just looks like someone who has been picked from The Royal Oak and told he is playing up front. Maybe that’s harsh on The Royal Oak I love that pub but it’s embarrassing even with his goal on Saturday he just doesn’t look interested. He offers one good thing and that is a distraction method for defenders when he plays upfront with Romelu Lukaku but that is that.
The two cup wins have papered over the cracks but with some fresh injury concerns its vital that cover for a few positions is acquired during the transfer window, and who knows maybe get rid of a few of the higher earners the likes of Aiden Mcgreedy I mean Aiden Mcgeady and Darron Gibson but it looks like it’s the end of good career at Everton for Steven Naismith I and every evertonian will be sad to see him go as he had played a crucial part both on and off the pitch at Everton.
Next up for the toffees is a trip to money rich Manchester City on Wednesday, I am confident we will kick on but don’t quote me.
Finally I’d live to wish a very special Evertonian a happy 12th birthday for yesterday Noah Cunningham is a true blue who has had a lot of difficulties in his life but it’s never stopped him watching the blues. Speedo Mick yet again helped raise awareness for this young toffee which ended up with Noah being presented with a birthday card from Everton.
This club really is the people’s club and gestures like this are one of the many reasons why this club is the best.
