Forever Reds, LFC’s former player association, continues to provide financial support to leading Merseyside charities, with a donation of £25,000 each to three local organisations who carry out vital work.

Money raised last season reached over £120,000 from the annual Forever Reds fundraising events including the Christmas Lunch and Golf Day.  The beneficiaries for this round of donations are Alder Hey Children’s Charity, Alzheimer’s Society and the Hillsborough Survivors Supporter Alliance.

For Alder Hey the Forever Reds donation will be supporting the new Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit caring for the tiniest patients and their families.  The Alzheimer’s Society will use their donation to go directly towards local dementia support services in Liverpool.  And the Hillsborough Survivors Supporter Alliance (HSA) will use to support anyone affected by the events that took place at Hillsborough.

Speaking about the donations, Chairman of Forever Reds, John Aldridge said:

“We’re proud to be able to support Alder Hey, Alzheimer’s Society and the Hillsborough Survivors Supporter Alliance from last season’s charity events.

“Thank you to everyone – fans and former players – who support our Forever Reds fundraising efforts, this is what it’s for. The donations will be put to good use and make a huge difference in the local community.”

Tracey Wilson, Head of Philanthropy, Alder Hey Children’s Charity said:

“We are deeply appreciative to LFC’s Forever Reds for their ongoing support and sharing our vision of a healthier, happier and fairer future for every child.  This kind gift will be used to fund a high specification incubator for our smallest and most vulnerable patients.”

Sam Scott, Senior Fundraising Manager at Alzheimer’s Society, said:

“Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer, and nearly one million people are living with the condition in the UK, including 32,000 in Liverpool alone. We know it will take a society to beat dementia, and we’re incredibly grateful to have the support of LFC’s Forever Reds to help us achieve this ambition.

“It’s fantastic that Forever Reds have chosen to support Alzheimer’s Society with a generous £25,000 donation which will go directly to local dementia support services in Liverpool.

“The funds will ensure that Alzheimer’s Society can continue to provide desperately needed support to thousands of people across Liverpool. Dementia is overwhelming, but our Dementia Advisers will be there every step of the way to provide expert guidance, advice and emotional support”.

Diane Lynn from Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance, said:

“Thank you to everyone at Forever Reds for this generous donation.  Since the award over 30 people have been able to access therapy and change their lives for the better.”

The creation of Forever Reds has been driven by the club’s desire to ensure former players always feel part of the LFC family – providing former players with support, involving them in important work in the local community and coming together to raise money for local charitable causes.

Forever Reds have also supported the Liverpool Spirit Appeal this season. Donating £50,000 alongside the LFC Foundation to help the city-wide fundraising set up to support those directly affected by the Champions Parade incident in Liverpool.

To support their next fundraising event, Forever Reds are hosting a Christmas event, with Liverpool FC legends Sir Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, Alan Hansen, Natasha Dowie and John Aldridge confirmed so far.
