Formby has welcomed a new venue as No.6 Wine Bar has opened its doors
11 months ago
No.6 Wine Bar has opened its doors in Formby just in time for the festive season.
The bar and eatery has breathed new life into one of the oldest landmarks in the village, originally a school house dating back to the 17th century after local people raised the money then built and ran the school themselves.
The picturesque, whitewashed building in School Lane was home to the popular Balti House until May of this year, when the restaurant closed its doors after 28 years.
Local people were worried by the closure of such a favourite but were delighted to see renovation work start last month and the announcement of the new bar and bistro.
No.6 is a classy, traditional hangout, with beautifully exposed roof beams, wooden floors, and luxury seating, including two large, curved booths. The corner bar serves a range of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails and there is a cosy small room where you can see pictures of the building from down the years.
New owners Karl Diamond and Steven Wilson are keen to maintain and celebrate the history of the building and have appealed for anyone with pictures of the old schoolhouse to contact them to help them celebrate its fascinating past life. Karl said: âSteven and I believe in preserving the unique features of our new property. Our vision is to create a cosy, yet sophisticated atmosphere where friends, families, and colleagues can gather.â
The bar has been open for a week and from Monday, 18th December, a new menu will be available for diners, with food being served daily from 12 noon to 7pm.
The menu features light bites like chicken pretzel bites, caprese bites, bacon cheese balls and the meaty pesto tower, there are charcuterie boards to share and salads ranging from chicken and bacon to prawn, strawberry and feta and chicken Caesar. There is a range of sandwiches to choose from, including Italian meat, BLT and tuna mayonnaise as well as cake and coffee.
Bottomless brunch is available for ÂŁ30 per head for two hours and includes six items from the light bites menu, with a choice of drinks including Prosecco, Corona, Somersby Apple Cider, and a range of cocktails.
No.6 is the latest new addition to Formby’s hospitality offering with Lux 37 and Emily’s opening last year.
The bar and bistro is dog friendly, open Monday-Friday 12 noon-midnight, Saturday 11amâmidnight, Sunday 12 noonâmidnight.
