Garston Animal Rescue and Moggies & Doggies find missing cat

A much-loved cat who’d been missing for over six months has been reunited with her owner after volunteers found her with a pipe stuck around her neck.

Animal lovers in Garston spent weeks trying to catch four-year-old Suki because they feared the plastic piping could strangle her to death.

Teams from Garston Animal Rescue and Moggies & Doggies Merseyside went out searching at all hours of the day and night, supported by staff at their local Mariners Pub.

Each time she was sighted, the terrified cat would run off and quickly disappear, but eventually perseverance paid off and they managed to catch her and take her to their vets to have the pipe removed.

It was then, with no signs long-term harm, that she could be scanned and vets discovered she was microchipped with the details of her owner, Georgia Spicer.

Georgia, 20, had all-but given up hope of ever seeing Suki again when she got a phone call out of the blue.

Georgia said: “I was on two different Facebook groups when I first lost her in February, Moggies & Doggies and Scouse Pets, and I was putting loads of posts up,” says Georgia.

“I’d go out wandering the streets with treats, and I put posters up but after months hearing nothing I really did lose hope.

“She’s such a little princess and she’s so skittish, she’d run away from anything, so I thought she wouldn’t survive.

“She’d always been an outdoor cat, and when I lived with my mum in Dingle we used to have a catflap. If she was out for a long time all I had to do was open the back door, shout her name and you could see her jumping over the fences to come home.

“After all this time I’d tried to put it to the back of my mind but I’d still think about her and hope that maybe one day I’d fine her somehow.

“Then I got a call when I was in work and the vet told me she safe and was all over Facebook. Hundreds of people had been sharing her photo and all these people had been out trying to help her but I had no idea. I was gobsmacked and so grateful.”

Georgia believes Suki might have been scared off by another cat living nearby in Garston. “I think she probably just ran and kept running then realised she didn’t know where she was. Maybe she tried to get back to our old home and got lost.”

Although she did spit and hiss when she was being trapped by volunteers, she was quite calm at the vets and miraculously unscathed.

“When I saw the photos of her with the pipe stuck on her neck I felt like crying my eyes out, then when went to get her there wasn’t a mark on her,” says Georgia. “All the fur around her neck was completely flattened, but she had no cuts. She’d been immobilised so she couldn’t turn her neck properly and I can’t imagine how she ate, but she must have managed because she wasn’t skinny at all.

“It broke my heart when she came home because I fed her instantly and she cleaned the plate, so I gave her another and she cleaned that as well. The next day, she hadn’t been crying to be fed but we had a carrier bag ready to go into the bin and she started trying to break into that with her teeth. That must have been how she’d been finding her food.”

Georgia says Suki is now back home safe and sound and she’s loving being the centre of attention.

“She usually likes her space, but when she came home she was glued to our legs. She’s got separation anxiety and follows us whenever we leave the room now.

“She does get a bit spoiled at the moment because we’ve missed her so much. She’s been keeping me up half the night but I don’t care, I’m just so happy she’s home.”
